If chemicals bother you then yes. Most clothing is sprayed with stuff so that no bugs/mold/mildew bother it while its shipped.

Generally I'd imagine it's not as vital, since people aren't gonna try it on with their bare skin. I'd still wash it first, but if you're buying one because it's cold and you don't have one, I wouldn't suffer through the cold.
