A meaningless pledge because theres just about no way the Dems hold onto both. Shit, even holding the Senate is getting dicey.

On the other side, itll invigorate Rs to pass a full national abortion ban should they take both chambers.

Playing politics with womens health. Always a winning strategy

I am optimistic about the results.

I remained optimistic here when everyone was losing their mind Tuesday night 2020, and it worked out then.

I don't think we're looking at a week long slugfest again, but I predict things will look bad Tuesday night then will start looking better Wednesday afternoon. Even with a lot less mail in votes, never underestimate the slow counting speed of some of these polling places.

I hope you're right, because I am beginning to spiral back into doom and gloom since polling appears to be showing the usual snapback to the GOP despite everything and if overturning Roe can't even move the needle then what the fuck can.

It'd be nice to have a polling error in the Dems' favor after the last 10 years.

I still think there is a decent chance we get either

  • a covid polling error where a bunch of republican support has died
  • an enthusiasm polling error where republicans don't vote because trump isn't on the ballot
  • a pollster overcorrection error where pollsters trying to be accurate after their 2020 predictions were wrong over correct

Like it's not a sure thing, but I am super skeptical that we should assume it's going to skew right again. Hell, if all 3 of those biases hit we might be looking at an easy 52 seats in the senate

Meanwhile, Parliament in the UK just voted to institute buffer zones around abortion clinics to stop anti-abortion campaigners harassing people. That is good. Unfortunately some very big government names in the No votes.

Also worth highlighting the followup tweets about US fundamentalist groups funding and campaigning on issues like this in the UK and other countries. Sadly the USs problems do have spillover.

I remember the abortion referendum campaign in Ireland. Every No campaigner I met was American. There it didnt work but there are places where it has been more effective.

Regarding the UK I dont think theyll get anywhere on this topic as it has 90% or more support but other issues like transphobia they have unfortunately been more impactful. Just goes to show that its not just Russia doing that stuff.

I mean there are zero stakes right now. They can say they would pass it. Wouldn't be the first time that once the party was actually in power they hesitated or watered it down.

Forcing everyone to fire every trans person employed would probably be extreme enough I don't think think it happens, and does that mean everyone who ever interacts with someone under 10 now has a mandatory genital inspection?

I would totally make my employer inspect my genitals to ensure I wasn't trans. Malicious compliance

It's always amazing how Democrats escalate on things where the escalation has a high probability of resulting in Republican escalation and victory but the Dems consistently back down on almost everything else.

And by always, I basically mean Harry Reid getting rid of the filibuster on judicial nominees in 2013.

I suppose my point was that they should have been trying to pass a protection law months ago, rather than using it as a campaign point.

Its possible there was some action in the House or Senate to do just that and Ive just forgotten. I know it would be a tough thing in the Senate at the moment but it will still be easier now than in January.

For instance if we look at polling, Yesterday Trafalger released a new poll that showed the Arizona Senate Race at D+1

Which seems to indicate the race is tightening, except their last poll a month ago was also D+1

Same with Penn, Fetterman +2 both last week and a month ago

I think there is perception that the race is tightening which is making forecasts more conservative, but polling hasn't changed much (In heavily polled states)

Poll moved +5 towards the democrats since July after Roe V Wade was overturned.

I think everyone shouting that there has been systematic movement towards republicans are wrong. Is it possible that polls are underestimating Republicans? Yes. Do we see poll movement? No

I feel like their bump from a C- to a A- pollster since the last election is having an odd effect (mainly holding to the theory that they fudge their polls but happened to fudge them 'correctly' in 2020). I guess we'll see after election day.

Why are any of the first three things bad? I mean, I can understand thinking the last one is bad, since we've already seen the effects of having unelected ideologues deciding laws for the country based on politics in the rightward direction. But beyond your standard conservatrolling, why are any of those first three things bad?

These are all things that threaten our constitutional system of laws, checks, and balances. We shouldn't take living in a free society for granted. Anything that takes away power from a political minority is dangerous.

The GND is the least dangerous of them, but actually printing $93 trillion could cause hyperinflation and end the dollar's status as the world reserve currency. I personally think all the hyperventilating about 8% inflation is overblown, but if we print $93 trillion we might end up with more like 500% inflation. That could cause extreme chaos and make everyone a lot poorer.
