Tag for later this looks pretty interesting. I think its more likely to exist now after they added all that weird crap about dudes in robes in an ancient Kingdom hearts world where everyone has a keyblade.

The idea of the key frames looks like it was aiming to be like some of the rotoscoped scenes from Aladdin & Beauty & the Beast. During dialogue, etc. And it seems like they really wanted Riku to move like Aladdin too. Just seems like overly ambitious as far as animation quality, and that clashes with the pacing if it were a TV show. Disney did make some high quality TV shows back then, and thinking about the state of anime back then, this could have been really cool. I was just watching Paprika, so that comes to mind as far as animation. This was a really cool watch. That's a hell of an episode hahaha. Like Pirates of Dark Water status. Kind of abrupt and dinky. Riku's characterization was different. The fight against the Heartless in the market at the beginning was interesting because video game and they skipped most of the opening, leaning on the success of the way the video game creates the basis for Sora as a character. Pulling off the combat gameplay fight scenes and exploration of the areas was arguably their biggest challenge from the perception of the audience at least. Cave of Wonders was cool. This makes me want to play KH1 again now, and makes me so sad it never happened.

There's a fine middle ground between Nomura dialogue and the dialogue here that could've been fantastic if given some extra time in the oven.

Loved how Maleficent just blasted Jafar out of Hollow Bastion mid sentence, and how lively Riku sounds. "It's a MAA~GIC lamp!"

Maybe it's recency bias (funnily enough, considering how old it is), but this pilot might honestly be Gallagher's best voice work as Riku. Lively is right. It's dripping with personality that Riku doesn't show as much of past 1 (perhaps CoM).

Interesting. Im happy they didnt go that route since its very kid friendly and uses the Disney formula too much.

Kingdom Hearts would be perfect as an anime if Disney would make it happen.

I wonder how involved Nomura was with this. I'm guessing not that much. I feel like if they came back to this nowadays he would be a major contributor

Yeah. In defense of Gallagher, Riku is super mopey and emo in basically every game after KH1, so something that takes place during 1's era would really be the only place he could play the character in a more upbeat way like he did here, and it's super refreshing and enjoyable. I wish we got more of this playful Riku in the game itself.

A contributor to the show not moving forward was probably due to lack in input from Square and Nomura, yeah, especially after they were allowed to start making more games and continue the franchise and story that way.

It would be neat to see them try to tackle a show again nowadays, but they'd probably either try to just redo the games plot beat by plot beat, or have a show be in the extended universe with other characters and make watching the show necessary to understand future games. In any event, they'd try their best to make it canon.

Yeah riku was an ass in most of kh 1 but it's also where he had the most personality. They went hard the other way in the sequels it sucked.

Chain of memories was a good middle ground. He helps sora co, but he still has some sass.

The only reason I even brought it up is that there have been rumors for a while about a D+ thing. But true enough, it could easily be Disney being Disney. Could even be a VA thing.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those rumors. Would be cool if true.

I know it'll never happen, but I've always thought it would be neat, since Disney has infinite money, to have a KH show that adapts each world to its original movie's art style. The animators would hate the Halloween Town episode, but still.

Not bad to be honest. I like that Riku is around in the story more and buddy/rivals with Sora for more of it then just the beginning until you meet him much later.

Buddy/Rivals.....I doubt the series still even remembers that dynamic of theirs.

Looks good, but at the same time it seems really unnecessary given how talky and convoluted the main games are anyway >_> I dont think an animated series would really add anything to the story as a whole that the games couldn't already do.

Definitely, I would have loved to see riku riffing with the villains same as how sora was interacting with the Disney heroes. Missed opportunity
