No, this isn't "Ready 'N' Steady," the song that charted on Billboard and no one could find. That one was finally found a few years ago.

Basically a guy recorded a song off of a German radio station circa 1984 and was never able to figure out the name and artist. Since 2007 his sister has been actively searching online for any info on it and in 2019 it caught the attention of several online communities, including Reddit and Youtube, which have been searching ever since with virtually 0 useful info uncovered. It's quite the story and even though, like many of these internet mysteries, the story is more entertaining than the song itself, this is something that I'll probably check on every now and then in hopes that they solved it.

Yes I've been following this story for ages. When I saw this topic I thought it may have finally been discovered who or what it is!

kinda reminds me of that Reply All episode about the guy who remembered a song (including many of the lyrics) that played on the radio all the time when he was a teen, but forgot the title and artist, and was completely unable to find any evidence of its existence

I doubt this is a satisfying conclusion. I bet I could find hundreds of local bands from that time period that are off the internet and maybe have some CDs somewhere nobody cares about.

You could easily take a random song from one of those and have similar bafflement

yeah I used to have this CD that a guy had burned a bunch of copies of and placed on every windshield in a parking lot. The only evidence it exists is a listing on discogs but there are no audio recordings of it online that I can find. I'm sure tons of that kind of thing exist

No, but I've heard about the opposite, songs that appear on the record charts, but don't seem to actually exist.

I love the response you get when you shazam the song. Someone should get a German DJ from the area to play it (if they haven't already) and asking if anyone knows who the band is. Or, hell, track down German DJs from that time/place. This is, again, if they haven't already. If the song exists someone, somewhere has to know who it was.

This avenue has been tried. They got in contact with the DJ they speculated played the song and from what I understand got logs of every song he ever played during his time at the station; every song on the list was positively identified. My understanding is also that they've contacted the station and asked them to play it, and they said no.

Many individuals have claimed credit for the song over the years including a member of a band that was once considered a possible lead, but too much of his story didn't add up (most of all, all of their music was recorded in 1982, but the synthesizer that can be heard on the song didn't come out until 1983, and when asked about this he got EXTREMELY defensive). Others that have claimed credit were also either proven to be bullshitting or provided no proof to back up their claims.

The most interesting thing to me is that supposedly multiple individuals have reported that the song was in the test screening version of the film Drugstore Cowboy but replaced with another song in the final cut, but this could easily be Mandela Effect.

I agree with both of you. I don't really understand the interest in this. I could make a song, or draw a picture, or film a video, and have it uploaded somewhere, and nobody would know the source. There isn't much to it that would be compelling.

I think the difference here is it was played on radio with some other pretty high-profile songs and also it's genuinely a good song people like quite a bit.

The reason why this is interesting is because the story is interesting. "This is a cd that was left on my windshield" is not a compelling story. I recorded this off the radio, I've been trying to track it down, I've talked to these people etc. is a more compelling story. Also it doesn't hurt the story at all that it was from cold war era Germany. A lot of information (and even a few people, I'd wager) simply vanished after the fall of the Berlin Wall. You really couldn't find a better time and place to set a mystery like this.

Sounds boring
I have a friend who is a singer wannabe, has like 1000 views tops for his songs over 10 years
If his song shows up in a radio then I assume like only 10 people will be able to recognize it, and then I am not sure if even those 10 people will realize that his song is "myserious" that needs to be identified

I mean, my cousins band which was both awesome and went nowhere sadly was played on local radio a few times. Radio stations back in the day (And currently?) used to mix in local bands during certain hours

what possibly makes this story more interesting is that all of the other songs on the mixtape have been identified, though. if this particular radio station frequently mixed in local bands with well known bands, shouldn't there be more super obscure bands that nobody has ever heard of on the tape?
