on the obscure Baten Kaitos games, yet he keeps rehashing his music for all the other series he makes music for. Like Tales of Arise was his chance to go make the music shine, yet most of the soundtrack is mediocre with barely any memorable songs. All the tales games he's composed for while nice sounding, dont compare to BK.

While I like BK's OSTs I'd be lying if I sad they were completely original and that he didn't repurposed parts of some of his older songs into some of the BK songs.

Irrrlevant to the topic since thats a band. I do love Symphonias starry night.

His best work was arguably Valkyrie Profile and Tales of Destiny 2.

Yes, quite a few songs sound typical of him, but have we heard them with the orchestral arrangement like he does on BK? Using real instrument instead of synthesizers is also a reason why it reaches that next level.

I remember back in 2004 sending an email to namco pressuring them to keep the song for the NA release. 15 year old me didnt know about music rights for different countries.

I can see why you feel that way because after Symphonia Sakuraba became really samey with most of Tales OSTs. Innocence was pretty interesting but I think he had someone work with him on that and then a lot of other more recent Tales OSTs.

For Tales of they ask him to make a "Tales of" sound. Listen to Tales of Phantasia for a truly inspired OST. Even as good as Symphonia is, it's phoned in in comparison because he already established a style that Namco wanted him to use.

This is basically what I was gonna say. Some of the games he composes for let him go off making bangers while others want something ahead of time and sometimes what they want is well. Subdued.

I hate Arise, but Dohalim's battle theme is fucking massive.
