There were modern smart phones, ipads, 4K TVs, VR,...

But there's been nothing new for years now. Phones are all the same these days. TVs are all the same these days.

Is there anything to look forward to?

I think that television streaming channels are making progress. Amazon Prime's Wheel of Time series, as well as Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. I am hopeful that the streaming channels will adapt more books into cool shows

There is a German author named Wolfgang Hohlbein that is having his 1989 novel Gryphon adapted into a new streaming series

Yeah. We're only 5 years away from 2027 and there's no sign of artificial arms breaking weak walls in a single punch. Or turning yourself into a literal human sized frag grenade

I think it was one the hauntology guys right? Derrida or Mark Fisher said that concrete buildings represent how the future has been cancelled and we're in an eternal present. An endless present where solutions are no longer grand leaps forward but small and efficient re-iterations of what was already there.
You might be getting stunlocked by marginally improved tech the same way.

I was about 5 seconds away from linking a video of paired remote sex toys that move depending on what you're doing with the other one.

But you'll just have to find it yourself
