Canned, jarred, fresh?

IMO jarred is the only way to go.

Canned meat tastes horrible to me. Really doesn't matter the kind, tuna, spam, corned beef, etc. All tastes like the tin it is stored in and not like actual meat.

Fresh is great, but you have to have it raw or only seared on the outside. If you cook it all the way through it is really dry.

Sardines are so much better than tuna. Better tasting, better for you, better for the environment.

Sushi is just a way of preparing it, can also be sashimi or nigiri.

But either way, raw tuna is great.

Canned tuna is fine, just get the "solid" tuna and not the "chunk light" crap.
And the lemon pepper sounds yuck.

I'm fine w/ canned plain tuna, I usually just put some Maggi sauce (it's like super concentrated soy sauce) on it to give a little flavor and make it less dry.

Mackerel is great too, not sure how it is environmentally. But...delicious. Kinda pricey, though.

Smaller fish like sardines and mackerel reach maturity much faster, and thus can replenish their populations faster, making overfishing less likely. Tunas are large fish and they take many years to reach maturity. Lots of juvenile tuna get caught every year and thus are never able to reproduce, making overfishing a real problem. In fact, the southern bluefin is now Endangered, the bigeye is Vulnerable, and the Pacific bluefin is categorized as Near Threatened.

If you're going to eat tuna, skipjack is generally considered the most environmentally friendly. They are a particularly prolific fish, and they are relatively small in size compared to some of the other tunas. It's considered to be sustainable at current consumption levels. Skipjack is usually labeled as "chunk light tuna", though this can also contain yellowfin.

Fun fact: In a study conducted from 2010 to 2013 found that 84% of "albacore tuna" tested were actually escolar, a fish which can cause cramps and diarrhea.

plain canned tuna? yeah it tastes like dry canned fish meat, which is what it is.

mix it with mayonaisse/miracle whip and add green onions, hard boiled eggs, paprika, etc., and it's a lot better (I think, usually done with salmon not tuna).

try subway tuna which is pretty good too

Stop buying tuna packed in water and buy tuna packed in olive oil. It tastes better and isn't nearly as dry.

Take canned tuna, drain the water, put it in a medium sized bowl. Add a few spoonfuls of mayo, some green onions, lots of pepper, and one spoonful of horseradish (optional). Mix together.

Spread on a few pieces of bread. Top with shredded cheese. Put bread on greased baking sheet and cook in 350F preheated oven for like 10 or so minutes until cheese melts and bread is lighter toasted on the bottom.

Easy lunch of champions right there.

Canned tuna can be quite good when its olive oil instead of water. Especially if it has special seasoning.

Nothing wrong with canned meat or fish. Tuna is good. With that said IF your budget can stretch to fresh then that clearly will taste better.
