Just curious, why are you being willfully ignorant of the amount of success and lasting effect Get Out has had on the genre?

Like it's not even something that can be argued. There's so many reasons why it's so influential and has a strong legacy on not just horror movies but movies in general. Is there something you want to get off your chest?

It was chosen by the National Board of Review, the American Film Institute, and Time as one of the top ten films of the year. Peele won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay at the 90th Academy Awards, with additional nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor (Kaluuya). It also earned five nominations at the 23rd Critics' Choice Awards, two at the 75th Golden Globe Awards, and two at the 71st British Academy Film Awards.

Get Out has maintained a strong reputation since its release, and it is commonly cited by critics as one of the best films of the 21st century, featuring in multiple listings of the best films of the 2010s. In 2021, the Writers Guild of America ranked the screenplay the greatest of the 21st century.

A parody movie vs. a horror comedy. You understand that the horror genre can have comedy right?

Cabin Fever. Gremlins. Trick R Treat. American Werewolf in London. Ready or Not. Tremors. Evil Dead. Honestly, do you want more?

You just aren't correct in your feels, but please continue on.

And hell, I might even play devil's advocate to Scary Movie.

It's a very good movie. It was recognized as such. It has not had an impact on the genre anywhere close to those movies. Maybe time will tell?

Dude. Are you dating Peele? It's a good movie. It's not that influential in the genre. (Not to say it can't be...if it actually influences good movies to follow it)

Fuck. Shakespeare in Love beat out Saving Private Ryan. Awards literally mean nothing.

Hes definitely overstating it's importance but you're also vastly understanding it, we're currently seeing waves from its influence similar to what Saw or Paranormal Activity had.

Also it's really damn good and absolutely deserved it's award

Maybe I'm understating it a bit, but I have not truly not seen it's great impact on the genre yet. I think more importantly, it has a significant impact culturally. I'm open to hearing your thoughts though.

I'd argue that It Follows or Hereditary have had more significant influence over most recent horror.

So then it has taken something that has already been done, polished it a bit, and in turn had some very unknown, not really impactful copycats? To me, that is something I would argue is not that influential.

Scream on the other hand took the slasher genre, did something somewhat unique with it, and then inspired a whole new wave of horror. For good or bad (mostly bad some would argue). Before Scream though, horror really was lost with it's hokey, almost direct to home video movies. Hellraiser 3, Leprechaun 3/4, Candyman Farewell to the Flesh, etc.

Get Out hasn't really inspired a new, impactful subgenre I'd argue. Hell, as others have said, I'd say It Follows probably did more for the genre.

Hereditary actually frightened more on a deep level more than most horror movies I've ever seen so for me it's that one.

I haven't been scared of a horror movie since I was 6 and watched IT. To me, that doesn't impact what makes a good horror movie.

That said, I think Hereditary was phenomenal. Score, acting, cinematography. Just think Cabin was a bit more unique to me.
