They literally tried to rename Latinos/Latinas as as gender neutral Latinx.

There is exactly zero point to masculine/feminine differences in grammatical systems. Every language in which this is a thing should collectively stop doing that nonsense starting right now.

Latino wasn't even coined by the Spanish speaking countries. The French coined it to describe romance speaking colonies in an attempt to try to create some sort of solidarity against English speaking colonies.

It's really weird how far Latino/Latina has made it in usage in the world.

**Edit: It was the term Latin America, not specifically Latino/Latina. My mistake. This is why you look up references before you start posting

"The term Latin America was coined in the 1860s when the French emperor Napoleon III was trying to extend French imperial control over the whole region. He and his ministers used the term to try to suggest at least some degree of cultural similarity between the region and France."

Older forms of English kept Latin's gender-specific suffixes tor and trix; -tor is for men and -trix is for women. So a male pilot is an aviator, a female pilot is an aviatrix. A male fighter is a gladiator, a female fighter is a gladiatrix.
This contrasts with the modern system, where tor is for both men and women, and trix are for kids.

I live in an incredibly large, diverse area and the only people I've known to even acknowledge the existence of that term were white women. You're not wrong that the term wasn't coined by condescending white women, though.

I am Dutch, and I also speak French and German well enough to get by. All of those languages already have to deal with that shit for no reason.
