Doesn't he plan for like 7 of them or something? Honestly the super cutting edge graphics(at the time) of the first one was cool and all. But the story was a huge Meh to me. So I will most likely never go out of my way to watch this one.

Remember there were people who were uncomfortable about this in the first movie.

I saw Avatar in the theater in 2009 or whatever. Thought it was mid. Never watched it or thought about it again. Is there really THAT much demand for this IP?

The amount of people who only watch movies for "awe pretty colors" or " oh man did you see that punch/explosion/ass" is pathetically high

I saw it in 2009 as well in theaters with the 3D glasses and I remember this movie being hyped as the 3D experience would be immersive.

I think the thing Avatar that tried to bolster it as a blockbuster was the 3D.

It puts people in seats. Well I hypothesize that's what Hollywood companies do focus groups for this stuff.

I think it will do well, but it wont do as well as the first one

Movies are partly a visual experience so that makes sense.

I enjoyed the experience of the first one in the theaters but never understood the massive hype for it, or why its the most profitable movie ever

i do like Big Jim Cameron though, and will probably watch anything he makes, so I guess Ill see it

Yes

The story wasn't amazing, no, but it was presented very well: it was clear what was happening and you formed some attachment to the characters (beyond just the main). People tend to underrate that these days.

That said it's not a movie I feel a great need to rewatch given the rehashed story: it was just Dances with Wolves or the Last Samurai in space once you got used to the setting. I would guess the sequel will be worth one viewing...and that's about it.
