What a fun game

I don't know what it is but something about that genre gets to me. It's such a good time waster when I don't want to put in a ton of effort or thought into playing a game in my free time. I also play 20 Minutes Till Dawn and plan to try another one at some point.

They made it 5 bucks now? Greedy.

Dropped the day after GoW Ragnarok came out, and holy shit, it's just as addicting as I was hoping it would be. I've got something to play when my gf is playing GoW now

Survivor.io is also a really good version of this type of game on Android. It's f2p, but just ignore all the purchase stuff.

yeah a lot of the abilities/weapons are exactly the same

wand - kunai
fire wand - missile
axe - brick
garlic - force field
bible - guardian
birds - drones
knives - revolver

the list goes on

I am addicted to this genre and have bought almost every one that I have tried.

These are the best so far:

-Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde
-Holocure (free btw)
-Brotato
-Boneraiser minions

Still a lot of fun:

I like to call them Bullet Heavens.

Because it's like a bullet hell, but you're the one making it hell for the enemies.

I meant to play it again since the 1.0 update. I've heard that free vtuber game is actually pretty good but shit is so goofy that it makes me not want to try it

20 Minutes Till Dawn just had an update earlier today, adding two new upgrade paths which were pretty fun. I just did three runs trying to force them into the build and Aero Magic seems pretty good. I didn't have enough trouble to get (almost) hit to see how good the new Dodge stuff is, but it sounds like it could be a nice alternative to the like two other upgrade paths that deal with survivability.

One of the best of the year, and for such little money. I've gotten about 80 hours out of it lol

Just tried Holocure tonight and found it pretty fun. I'm not into vtubers other than like two or three songs I like by Mori Calliope, so I feel like a LOT of references are lost on me with everything going on in the game.

I think the core concept is good, it just got old rather quick. I think with item synergies and interactions, more powerups, different types of upgrades, and multi-player, it'd bring some life into the game.

Yeah, every single item, enemy, ability, and collab is some deep Hololive reference. Like I was really confused as to why the cutting board was a weapon and why it did more damage and had more AoE on certain characters. The reason? It's a reference to some of the vtubers being flatchested. It even fires out behind you because it's a common joke that they're so flat-chested, you can't tell their front from their back.

Thats why I love the other Survivorlikes, non of them last an entire 30 minutes.
But also make sure to try the hyper mode or which ever one lets you do a shorter session.

I've been playing some more Holocure and made it to minute 24 against the Stage 1(Hard) boss. Jeez this thing is strong I had three collabs and ended up getting overwhelmed anyway.

I didn't know they added a hard mode.

I love holocure so I haven't played the last update a lot even though I was waiting for it forever

You could always take a break with a few rounds of Brotato. The stages there are about a minute each, and there are 20-30 characters to mess with for different styles of play.

Really wish it was easier to delete your save file :/ Even following instructions on where and what to delete the save gets phoenix'd every time.

Strafing in Holocure is so much easier on controller. I don't know how you guys play it but up until now I was using they keyboard with the default controls, so Z to lock your position while you move. I only gave this a try because I saw someone mention it elsewhere.

Eh strafing on keyboard seems pretty simple to me, though i did remap it to spacebar

I have fallen into the rabbit hole of this genre in last 2 weeks. I really can't wait to see what the general consensus on genre name will end up. For now I like horde survivor.

I have "beat" Magic Survival which is seen as origin of the genre. For being the origin, it really is made so well in terms of balance. Also "beat" Mages Survival which is a straight up clone of it. I say beat I mean unlock whole game. There's already a bunch of these sorts of clones.

Vampire Survivors and Holocure really stand out from these simple ones. They have better balance and variety. The controls feel more smooth and just overall presentation really sells it.

I'm currently playing like 8 or so of these games on rotation.

Mines: Mage, One-Arm, Soldier, Loud, Speedy

One Arm is fun. Give him the biggest shotgun you can find and fire through entire groups.

Engineer is fun in doses, but it probably helps that I like pet classes in games like the Borderlands series. Find some medical turrets as you go and he can become almost unkillable thanks to the rapid healing.

Knight is an interesting idea, and ends up being a relatively strong class despite the melee limitation.

These games seem to have perfected the holy grail of gameplay loop and feedback loop

Thing about Engineer is he always plays into a specific build with turrets or mines. I prefer using other classes with mines and turrets. Lucky is a great mine/turret hybrid build since specing into luck also makes xp pickups living mines. Old Man having a smaller plot of land makes for a fun pure mine build. Multitasker has potential for turret and mine spam if you get enough primaries (also damage reduction doesnt effect turret/mine damage).

I should play more knight, I typically avoid absurdly broken characters like Masochist and thats the impression I got from Knight?

Just finished getting every achievement in 20 Minutes Till Dawn. My last one was a Darkness 15 run with Hina and I had a pretty hectic run where my damage dropped off to the point that the last two Elites and last boss were all still alive at once. I had to run for dear life and missed out on picking up a lot of experience until the boss went down and the Tome of Power it dropped had to carry my sorry ass to victory. Edit: Oh and I was doing it on the Pumpkin Patch since I wanted to end it there.
