A buudy of mine in college had a roommate with a python or boa. He fed it rats. One time he was gone and I was drinking and smoking with my buddy and a few other friends. They decided to get the food rat (in a separate cage at the time) wasted just for shits and giggles, so they fed it bread soaked in vodka and then hot boxed the cage. They decided to then feed it to the snake because they figured if it was fucked up, it would be a more merciful time for it to be eaten and it would probably be less scared. It wasn't less scared. It was extremely terrified. It had a several minute staring match with the snake, but it was so fucked up that the snake was actually scared of the rat too and eventually left it alone and hid from it. The roommate (snake owner) moved out a few days later and left the rat and its cage with my buddy, who continued to feed it and eventually let it go in the woods near the dorm, so it had a happy ending after the ordeal it was put through.

I have still yet to experience a tornado at all. A part of me wants to but every other part is fucking terrified. I had a scare as a kid like 35 years ago and another closer one like 15 years ago (that was a closer call. I was living on the top floor of my building with no basement access. A tornado did touch down and fuck shit up in my area but more than 10 miles away at the closest thankfully. It made a waterspout over a river and youtube enjoyed that shit though). I was just glad to be safe. Only 2 tornado scares for me.

I was in a pretty fucked up hurricane though on cape cod when I was a kid. Bob ('92? '93?). Took out a tree that was like 3 feet across in the backyard of the cottage I was in (thankfully did not fall onto cottage), FUCKED UP the neighboring cottage (those lucky bastards were not home), had trees and power lines littering streets for days, power out for nearly a week. My parents decided to tough it out (with me and my then baby brother. We were on vacation with my aunt, uncle and cousins... they decided to fuck off after a few days without power. We apparently did not lol).

There was a warning in my area a couple years ago and at that point, I was living where I am now (and have basement access so I got excited that I might see one (I was already drinking and obviously when the warning alert came in, I was gonna go harder lol) so I went outside to watch the sky and see where the evening would take me. Nothing happen but I ended up talking to neighbors across the street who were kinda fuckin crazy but fun to talk to. One of them was missing an arm. At the time, I assumed he was a vet and maybe lost his arm in combat, but years later I found out that he lost his arm as a kid when he and some of his friends were fucking around on local train tracks and... well, a train... so that's why he was missing an arm. He and his cousin/roommate ended up selling their house. I got fucked up with them a few times beforehand though. They were kinda the "weirdos" of the neighborhood apparently but they were actually not weird if you took the time to get to know them.

I just uttered these words honestly out loud at my fucking annoying computer that I've been fighting with for months. I know I've posted about this before where it gets annoyingly loud and I didn't know why and I investigated it and figured some shit out but I never fully solved it.

Tonight, just now, something happened that has never happened before. It got loud again (annoying) but then I did something and it shut the fuck up. All I did was change was my sleep/hibernate settings. I've changed other settings a lot all over the place, but I think that's where the problem was. I think it was overestimating temperature and overreacting (most of the time when the fan started being a DICK, laptop was cool or warm. I used a bunch of diagnostics to lower and monitor temps. I was doing a good job with that. It was not getting hot.

Every time it got loud, I was shutting down and letting it rest. Then I was just having it go to sleep or hibernate. Tonight, I made it shut up while remaining awake, for the first time. It's one fan that's the issue. The other fan is okay. I think I might have a heat sensor fucking up though, which I should get fixed... but the good news is that's not too big of a deal and I've been right all along. I'm still plugged in too. Usually that makes it be more of a dick. It's not being a dick now.

It got loud again a few times. I made it shut up again a few times.

I do think it's having an issue but the more I can figure it out, the more I know, and right now I'm thinking the heat sensor got fucked on one of the fans.

What I know:

One of the fans is fucky. The right one. The left one is okay.
Charging matters. It gets fucky a lot more often and a lot easier when the charger is plugged in.
Temperature plays a part. The fan gets loud. It goes into overdrive when it thinks it has to cool shit down.
Temperature isn't necessary gauged correctly. It gets fucky even when it's cool or just warm.
Temperature isn't being sensed right universally (theory about faulty heat sensor)
Software affects it (updates and settings have a profound effect on it)
Fan fuckery CAN reverse itself (tonight's discovery shows that the fan can shut the fuck up after it starts flipping out, something I did not think was possible previously)
Affect overall: minimal (diagnostics have given good ratings and overall, performance does not suffer. Performance monitors show very acceptable temperature ranges)

I think it is a minor fix but one that is not crucial at the moment. Granted, I'm a procrastinating motherfucker so "lack of urgency" is dangerous music to my ears, but in this case, I think I am actually figuring it out.

That's too much for me to fool with.. Every PC I ever had was half the time getting the fucking thing to work right. That's why I choose console gaming when I could easily do PC

I get it. I have a weird history with both. I was late to the whole "having a computer for the first time" thing but I was also late to consoles. I had a gameboy and a genesis and a NES and SNES growing up (not all at the same time). I didn't have an internet-accessible computer until high school (when I did, it was dial up). Then I was all about N64 and PS1, but no internet there. Got an Xbox in college but wifi wasn't big yet. Those years I was on the computer a lot but not online (wifi wasn't commonplace) so that's probably why I have a PC affinity. After that, the next few generations of consoles just didn't feel like they measured up overall and now, my mind's been made up for years.

I've seen Switch advertised for fairly cheap for the holidays and I can't say I ain't fuckin tempted... but even with a discount, I'm not looking to spend that kind of money as much as I want to (and I know a lot of you guys have 'em and my brother does too so that's like more incentive but I know if I buy a switch, I'll be like 1 or 2 games and then stop wanting to spend money and 5 years later, it's gonna be obsolete and I'll be like "why did I waste so much on this? >:(" because I already did THAT a few times -_-

You should still get a switch even with that mindset

Nintendo stuff retains value, and then some. If you don't get much use out of it, and have a few digital games, 3-4 years from now you can probably get your money back at least. It isn't like PS and Xbox where older consoles go cheap and no one wants them much in the future.

Consoles are a stable platform for five years or so. A PC effectively begins compatibility decay before it's even assembled.

Always been in the same boat, rather just get a console and have it work for years at functional capacity at the sacrifice of performance that I really don't care about. I play more indies and pixel art stuff than anything. I'll never need more than 60FPS and 4k. I'm perfectly fine playing a game at 1080 still also.
