I have met a lot of CEOs in my line of work in the transportation industry and you would be surprised how dumb and stupid a lot of them are. Good portion of them were gifted their jobs.

Im convinced half of them would be working a menial, low paying job like delivering packages for Amazon if they didnt have the connections or contacts that they have.

it made me learn the hard way that merit and hard work dont take you very far if you dont know the right people

Maybe they should permit their loss prevention people to actually stop thieves.

as someone who worked there at one point, most wal marts have almost no loss prevention. anyone that isn't a manager will get fired for approaching someone stealing stuff and doing anything more than watching them, and greeters can't do shit if you just ignore them

but the reason they can get away with that is they make an insane amount of money to negate what they lose from theft easily. what this sounds like is them throwing out a public facing excuse because they're about to start closing stores anyway

Maybe they should permit their loss prevention people to actually stop thieves. Right now thieves are allowed to walk out the door and a police report just gets made. Guess what, ain't no police detective following up on a Walmart shoplifting.

Thefts are becoming a major issue in America. Mom and pop shops are being hit as well. So many policies enable this behavior.

No surprise the same people who want to defund the police, praise looting, stealing and pirating would NEVER see an issue with this.

At Sam's club there's always staff at the exit ready to scan a few items for if they've been purchased or not.

Walmart already has door greeters so giving them a scanner and 1 extra duty likely wouldn't break the bank.

Stealing non-essentials and selling them is still theft done out of necessity

Even without self checkout the problems with shoplifting still exists. The only way to really stop it would basically have some shitty system of locking mechanisms as if stores were the Jurassic Park tours. Since Lawsuits are a problem with stopping shoplifting.
