Wouldn't it make more sense for him to play Kratos, given it's live action. Otherwise they'd be dubbing over everything.

Christopher has some bulking up to do though.

Hey at least you know Amazon will spare no expense. So the shows quality ultimately comes down to the creative.

Like I has my fair share of issues with Rings of Power and Wheel of Time but you can't say that Amazon didn't support the hell out of the shows.

Like the Last of Us, the game is cinematic enough that a TV show feels redundant.

Bezos scooping up another IP second fiddle to HBO's (GoT - LOTR, TLOU - GoW).

The games are sequels. There was no reason to start with the sequels on the show. Imagine if The Last of Us show began with Last of Us 2 and skipped the first game

The games didn't reach their level of critical and narrative prestige until the Norse saga. It's not surprising they want to go there instead of the less lauded, particularly narratively, Greek saga.

the other day i was thinking how fucking badass it would be if there was an animated God of War series made by the same people behind Samurai Jack and Primal.

but now seeing Amazon behind this, i don't have much faith in them...

And starting in the Norse Saga is already a dumb decision imo. I bet you anything the Greek saga is going to be told in flashbacks and I hate that type of story telling.

Ah, my mistake. I just assumed that since they made a prequel show that there was something in the original book that came before that, but I guess that's just following another book that would be a prequel.

I could still see them covering Kratos' origin story quickly. Not as quickly as She-Hulk, but something along those lines. Or they could cover the origin story through flashbacks throughout the series.

What? Rings of Power was Citizen Kane compared to their "Wheel of Time" show. I put it in quotes because it had nothing to do with The Wheel of Time other then stealing the names of people and places to use in their own made up shitty story.

The showrunner for this is the guy who was the showrunner for Wheel of Time, just in case people weren't aware.

The new games clearly do talk about and are absolutely directly 100% related to the original trilogy as well as the PSP games. It is brought up a bunch, and there are even moments that directly happen in it based on the original games.

Not sure who at all would think this has nothing to do with the OG series. Ragnarok has a bunch of dialogue about Kratos and his past deeds.

I'm sure they will, and I have no issues with that. I didn't like them and barely played them so the game going back and discussing what happened or even showing what happened via hallucinations ala God of War 2018 is fine with me.

Wut? The first season is the first book, so on and so forth. Yes it did. Oops this was answered already, I should finish the topic before posting, my mistake.

Maybe Im in the minority but Ive played GoW since the original first came out and I still think the Greek Saga was more interesting. It didnt have the current tech and narrative flex, but it felt more epic, especially the battles. Im still halfway through Ragnarok so maybe it gets better. The Norse Saga is fun and all but I still prefer the Greek Saga narrative over all and its a bummer to see theyre going to minimize it.

I imagine they'll do flashbacks, but it still seems like a weird starting choice. The games can get away with it because God of War is such a big series. Even people who never played it knew the general gist of Kratos being Bigmad: The Man and killing the Olympians. A TV show needs to aim for a broader market which means a lot of people won't know who he is.

Like the scene where he retrieves the Blades of Chaos won't have nearly the same impact.

I think its dumb theyre starting at the end of the story, but I also dont see how they could adapt the original God of War trilogy for television given the whole thing is just murder fantasy with Kratos as an unrepentantly horrible character

i dont see how you can tell this story as a TV show without telling it as flashbacks because there needs to be a character the audience can root for

I won't stand for this revisionist history, the pre-Norse games have good stories. They're a different genre of story, but they're still great. And they have a lot more nuance than most similar games from that time period.

You know, it'd be cool if they remade the Greek saga after the Norse saga to give it the same depth and style. That could be interesting.

Hell, this show could have been that opportunity.

But Amazon didn't make them bad. They just wrote the giant checks and then the creatives behind it did there thing...just often very poorly. But like Amazon absolutely has great shows too. The Boys is straight up better than its source material.

That said Rafe Jenkins is shit and this show is gonna very likely be shit, even if Amazon gives them a billion dollars.

You absolutely are. I prefer substance over flash and while the Greek saga is much deeper then some give it credit for, its still more flashy than filling.

Heavy revisionist history with the OG GoW. The only reason people were excited about GoW4 is because the original trilogy was a classic.

Kratos being the jerk he was, was a very unique factor, and you know what, it was a game about Greek gods, and those greek gods (including your own guy) being terrible beings. If that isn't Greek Mythology right there, I don't know what it is.

And tbh, I vastly prefer Greek Mythology over Norse, other than Norse having Ragnarok as a part of its mythology, which is the most interesting and epic "conclusion" to a mythology imo.

Oh boy. After seeing what they did with Tolkein, I can't wait for this masterpiece.
