It's official artwork by Katsuya Terada for Nintendo Power and maybe official Player Guides. He did art for Zelda 2, Link to the Past, and Link's Awakening. It's pretty rad >_>

I'm only doing Link's Awakening artwork because there's way more of it compared to the other 2 games, plus not to mention that Link's Awakening is the best 2D Zelda and the other 2 games don't matter.

I've always felt that making a 3D game with visuals based off of Terada's artwork would be amazing. There'd probably be a bit of an issue with visibility but that can be tweaked.

Thanks for sharing, I don't think I ever saw any Link's Awakening art. That artwork always made the Zelda games seem far grander than they actually were - especially as a kid - a sentiment that was finally made reality almost three decades later with BotW.

imo she bears a striking resemblance to Erika Eleniak (of Baywatch fame) in those illustrations:

It's not inconceivable that he based the image on her, since she would've been at the height of her popularity at the time.

She does kinda look like her. It's not out of the realm. Samus from Super Metroid was based off of Kim Basinger after all lol

I don't mind the art style of the Switch version. But yeah like that other poster said: if they made a Zelda game in this artstyle, it would look amazing

I'd much rather have a 2D game animated more in the style of the pics in the thread. Link's Awakening has so much character on Gameboy, don't see the point in a version that runs choppy and looks horrendous.

Because Link's Awakening is the best 2D Zelda game. That's why lol

The Switch version is definitely the best version, but it's also really expensive for what is essentially a gameboy game with a really really really shiny coat of paint.

See, thats the kind of artwork where as kids a lot of us would use our power of imagination and totally envision the games we were playing looking like said artwork, lol.

Did it all the time as a kid and teen....reading instruction manuals or coming across artwork in various magazines or whatever of various 8 bit, 16 bit, and 32 bit generation games and going "yeah.....this game is totally going to look like this cool art in like 15 years".

......yeah nintendo is getting there....very slowly in comparison to sony and microsoft. (I like zelda, I really do, but I have to be honest.......I would love to play a zelda game created on the PS5 or xbox series x, =/ lol).

Nice! LA is my favorite Zelda game (first played when I was like five on my older brothers Gameboy). Didn't know what I was doing, but as the Gameboy got passed to me I eventually figured it out. Have the DX version on my 3DS and the remake for Switch. This is making me want to play it again lol.

My favorite aspect of this piece is that, despite Ganon being a towering all-powerful pig demon, he's clearly afraid of Link, or at least apprehensively on his guard; he knows Link has the power to end him with one shot. This plays well into the final battle with Ganon in the original LoZ, since he's mostly hiding in the shadows the whole time.
