Both are on sale for the same price.

I found the first Nioh to be decent at best, I really hated the loot system and low enemy variety but apparently the sequel is better in every way?

The sequel is better but it's not Sekiro. Still both are must plays. Nioh 2 has some memorable boss fights that I loved.

Sekiro - 8.8

Nioh 8.2

sekiro is a fun game where you tap L1 to win

nioh 2 is a fun game where you spend 1/3rd of your playtime sifting through menus

If the loot grind is not your thing, I'd say go for Sekiro.

Never played Nioh 2. The first Nioh was alright, but didn't really impress me. It was so similar to From formula outside of the strange level selection I thought it was a From Soft game.

Sekiro is the best game From has ever made.

Nioh 2 is better for sure but it's still a really dense loot/grind fest.

Nioh 2 is still Nioh. Sounds like you might like Sekiro more.

Tried as I might, I could never get into the Nioh games. Just something about it lacks the same soul that From games have.

Personally, always go From if you love their games. If you liked most of Dark Souls but couldn't get quite into it, you might wind up enjoying Nioh 2 more.

Agree with this more or less. I'm like halfway through Nioh 2, and it's great, but I can already tell Sekiro is better. Both are good though.

Nioh 2 improved upon the sequel by increasing enemy types but it still lacks compared to From Software games. Its boss battles were strong, though. Loved quite a few of the fights and would rank them up there with some the better ones from Dark Soulsesque games.

Sekiro needs a damn sequel.

Nioh 2 if you're looking for something with multiplayer. If you're looking for single player then, I'd go with Nioh 2.

The Sony exclusivity tag is the cog that's kept Nioh alive to have a sequel despite being a completely unremarkable Souls knockoff with repetitiously annoying progression.

Sekiro.

Anyway. Like both, but Sekiro easily. Sekiro is perhaps the best From Soft game

Sekiro 100% for sure. Game is a masterpiece.

I love Nioh 2, but the loot grind gets old fast. Multiplayer coop is a ton of fun, and the game is vastly improved from the first with the exception of the story imo. Good for a playthrough, but after beating the game all that's left is to keep going back through the same missions to grind for slightly better loot.

sekiro is one of my favorite games of all time but it is very lean and gives you less room for experimentation than other fromsoft games

nioh 2 was ok but I personally found the loot based gameplay frustrating enough for me to shelve it

He's probably alluding to Souls' advanced mechanics like hard-swapping and min-maxing stats for certain builds.

In Sekiro, you no longer have "builds" and there's no such thing as a hard-swap because there's no swapping.

Some people take the pvp side of Souls way too seriously.

I think you guys might have taken the comment too hard

L1 = parry in Sekiro, which is indeed how the game intends you to play at its core and while simplistic, is very satisfying within the context of its gameplay

you veered off into a whole other thing with hardswapping and minmaxing.

To OP - both are great games. I think Sekiro is the best Fromsoft game personally. The difference is Nioh 2 has a HUGE focus on minmaxing a build through attribute boosts whereas Sekiro is primarily about you mastering the combat loop it presents and nothing else. Thats not to say Nioh 2 doesnt have great combat though - its fun as hell. Just be aware that the game intends for you to get the good gear and the difficulty and expected grind is in line with that.

For me, it is definitely Nioh 2. Nioh 2 really did improve so much compared to Nioh 1. I personally wasn't a big fan of Sekiro though. I love the combat in the Nioh games so much. It was so much more fun to me, compared to Sekiro. I probably logged in more than 2000 hours into Nioh 2, which is totally insane for me.
But if you really despise loot grinding, that is a determent. It can get tedious, but I found it tolerable. The combat of the game more than made up for it, to me.

Nioh has a very intricate combat system. I would almost say its a detriment since itll scare off new comers, but the sheer amount of options you have at any given point between spells, weapons, weapon abilities, soul core attacks, going phantom is what got me about the combat despite the initial wtf

I did a quick/medium katana build focused on the absurd parry or position change abilities both trees had and absolutely slaughtered my way through the game on the first run. I was using a combination of it's equivalent of Faith from DS, idr what it's called. All the talismans. So I had invulnerability, healing, armor boosting ones etc at all times.

When I beat the game and realized that something like NG+4 or +5 was when the "real" difficulty and loot drops were supposed to happen I just shelved it.

It still would do nothing to make him not look like the silly one. Anyone who knows anything about it knows it's someone being disingenuous. It's not gonna hurt the game at all. It's gonna hurt anyone trusting yhe perspective if the person claiming it. It's like how I can't trust Penguin0s opinion because he exaggerates everything to the point there's no real insight to get out of it a lot of the time lol. Which is fine if you're going for humor over legitimacy.

Sekiro is literally one the hardest games of the generation

Then your comment makes no sense because it means all you must be hitting in Souls games is R1. If you're not hard-swapping to insta-change your Ash of War after feinting an opponent, you have no room to make jokes about muh simple gameplay.

the guy didnt bring up any other souls games here though?

Eh whatever. Both Sekiro and Nioh 2 are worth playing. Theres definitely reasons why someone may not want to play Nioh 2 which I agree with.

like this.

Nioh 2 is harder but its bullshit harder imo despite being a good time. Sekiro does its difficulty miles better.

I wish Nioh 2 wasn't so preposteriously easy. It really should be a no brainer that Nioh 2 is plainly superior to the first game, but the lack of any challenge until NG++ is just devastating to me.

Also the story is unimaginable drivel.
