That's a good message. People shouldn't just rely on some divine savior that may or may not ever show up

Wasn't that also mentioned in Wild Arms 2? Although that was more along the lines of waiting for a sacrificial hero who gets screwed over saving the people, instead of getting up and fighting for themselves.

To be fair the fire nation was pretty OP. Fire nation had full metal tools, ships, weapons, fucking fire monsters that they tamed, everything. Water is just a bunch of shitty tribes using like wood weapons and shit, useless. Air benders were too peaceful and had like ZERO weapons or anything technologically useful AT ALL, useless. Earth was really the only threat but they just kind of ALL sucked ass since nobody else figured out to do the thing that makes them an actual threat, metal bending. Apparently being a metal bender isn't even that uncommon so it really was just that they sucked ass and were just dumb I guess. Also i will just say it Earth bending is the shittiest bending BY far if metal bending isn't in play.

So yeah honestly nobody had a chance fire nation might as well be fighting Zimbabwe

so is the Fire Nation really that bad? Rest of world also had powers, but didn't try to modernize.

It also gets said in a cinematic in World ofWarcraft. A character rejects a holy infusion of power from this angelic type being. He ends up killing the angel instead when he rejects the power. Then he tells the other characters that "there can be no chosen one. Only we can save ourselves "

If the Avatar died he would have reincarnated into the next element in the cycle. That has not happened yet. So have hope.

Being able to bend fire is an inherent advantage in industry because you can more easily forge things. Trying to conquer the world also helps drive innovation.

In some ways, bending also hold them back. At the series' start, the most advanced technology you can see from the Fire Nation are steamships. The Water Tribes would have no reason to develop that technology because their water benders can just shift the water to propel their ships.

Who needs weapons when you can just create a localized vacuum and kill everyone within a set radius of yourself?

Still loses to cannons. Also imagine if they had some sort of defense weaponry. Ya know, to fight them before they are in the inner sanctum and your strongest dude now has to 1v30. They were in a temple high in the fucking clouds. Imagine how easy that would have been to defend with medieval technology. The only threat that wouldn't just get bumble fucked trying to get past a narrow mountain path full of barricades, hot oil, and cannons would be an air attack but uhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah I would think nobody would beat an air bender air to air. So yeah they had a chance to have an impenetrable fortress if they didn't fuck up that whole "not developing weapons or defenses" thing.

I think it was kinda implied that the Fire Nation didn't really invent a lot of their tech, they usually just take the blue prints from things that can be helpful like when they were able to make the blimps by reverse engineering the hot air balloon after that one episode where Aang and his friends helped stop the invasion at the North Air temple. I mean no doubt Fire Nation were at a major advantage because they could forge things better with their fire bending.

They had a temple on a mountain. There's never been war. They had no reason to suspect an attack or to prepare for one. Yes, the Air Nomads were kind of stupid.

You guys hear about the war that's going on in Ba Sing Se?
