I just had this a couple weeks ago with Ragnarok. Literally people trying to say that the game's depiction of Thor's alcoholism and its impact on his family is "woke" and "not accurate for the time frame this game takes place in" (as if there's an actual established 'time frame' this game is supposed to happen in!).

I don't know what it is about movie forums. The IMDB were one of the most toxic message boards I've ever seen, and I recently had to unsub from r/movies over outrage the commenters had over a post.

Spoilers just in case I guess

Thor is depicted as a middle-aged, depressed, full-blown alcoholic man (who just happens to be the God of Thunder), with practically no control over his own life (largely thanks to Odin being an abusive asshole of a father). His abusive upbringing by Odin led to his own abusive upbringing of Modi and Magni, which (in)directly led to their deaths at the hands of Kratos and Atreus in the first game, which causes him to further spiral downwards and basically starts destroying what remains of his family life with Sif and Thrud, along with his inability to stand up to Odin. There's even one point in the story where you find him in a tavern in Asgard, stupid fucking drunk, despite promising Sif and Thrud he would quit drinking.

And then in the end, when everything finally clicks with him, Odin just straight-up kills him because he won't kill Kratos, and this death occurs in the mud in what's basically the front yard of Odin's home.

But apparently it's all "inaccurate" because alcoholism wasn't an "issue" (or some stupid shit like that) "back then" (which, again, I have no idea what that's supposed to mean in the context of this series).
