I started with $200, literally got down to my last chips with a double-down and won it, got up to $300, then got back down to $190 total before I saw the time and just left >_>

Paying $10 for 3 hours of entertainment aint bad lol

That's how I've always viewed gambling. If I wind up close to even but spent a bunch of time being entertained, then that's awesome

That's the only way too view gambling. Set a hard limit for what you are going to spend then play it out until you either get bored and cash out or lose it all.

Anyone who thinks of gambling as an actual money making source eventually ends up financially hurting themselves. The system is literally designed to take your money in the long run.

my only experience with gambling is walking into a casino, I did the minimum amount on a slot machine and won $50 on the first roll. I tried to withdraw my winnings from the machine but I couldnt figure out how so I rolled again for the minimum amount and won another $50. This time it let me take my winnings and I just left straight away after that.

well, that and crypto. Im still up $500 on my initial amount I put into crypto

Yeah, I only gamble maybe once a month and it's with money I don't need.

Plus once I get up a certain amount, I start setting milestones for myself and once I fall below one of them, I walk away >_>

I once split four different hands and got blackjack each time.

The table shifted not too long after. They can smell the blood of a novice player, I ducking swear.

Every once in a while I'll go for a few max bet spins on a dollar slot, just to see if I hit anything. One time I got a spin on the bonus wheel and hit $400. I immediately leave after a score like that.

Someone told me to always bet on a specific line (either the pass or the no-pass line. I forget >_>) and just hope for the best lol

Is that true or is he just dumb?

I always get shaky on the actual names but "pass line" is the one where you can get multiplied odds if the point hits. But if you don't take the multiplier, then it's just 1:1 money. So let's exclude the multiplier for now.

So let's say the game is restarted. Nothing on the board right now.

You put your bet ($25) on the pass line.

If the first roll is a 7 or 11, you win 1:1 money. If it's 2, 3, or 12, you lose that bet.

For other numbers, if the next throw is anything else (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10), the rolled number is now the "point." So let's say they rolled a six. Six is now the point. The "point is ON" is the terminology I believe.

What you CAN do next is take odds on the point being rolled again (The "multiplier" I mentioned above). That means effectively wagering double your pass line bet. So since you had $25 on the pass line, you then place $50 behind the pass line. Then, if a 6 gets rolled before a 7, you win fat stacks on the $50 AND your $25 pass line bet (I think). BUT if you don't take the multiplier, then you just win money on your pass line bet. I forget if it's 1:1, or if you get a slightly better payout on something less common like a 4. The point is now off and the game resets.

Someone will have to fact check me on all this because I only recently learned it. I remember all the spots and bets and shit, but I'm bad with terminology and payouts.

tldr your friend is not dumb but someone smarter than me will have to confirm that. I think it depends on if he's JUST talking pass line (just your $25), or if he's talking pass line AND multiplier (your $25 AND your $50). Either way, pass line is a good way to at least make your money last longer, but upside is limited.

Craps is wild. You can have $150+ on the board at once and lose it all on a 7. But if you expand your bets to cover a bunch of the board, everything you roll that ISN'T a 7 will pay you something back (as you can also place bets on individual numbers to hit - so if the point is 6, but you roll a 4 and had money on it, you get paid for that without losing your pass line bets - you also DON'T lose that bet if something other than 7 is rolled. It just stays on there and you can keep hitting on it repeatedly until 7 is rolled). This is a great way to make loads of money, but it's also a great way to lose loads of money in literal minutes. So pass line is a safe way to at least have some fun for longer.

So if you only play pass line, the scenario is below:

Button is OFF (game has "restarted" basically):
-WINNING numbers: 7, 11
-LOSING numbers: 2, 3, 12
-Nothing numbers (establishes the point): 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10

Once 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 is rolled, the button is now ON (whichever number was rolled - let's say a 5 was rolled above - the button is now on 5. 5 is now the "point")
-WINNING number: 5
-LOSING number: 7
-NOTHING number: everything else

Im so glad I never got into the pit games even though I easily spends hundreds of hours in casinos almost every year, I will just stick to poker thanks. Though theres been quite a few times after losing nights I had the temptation of sitting down at the blackjack or baccarat table to get unstuck real quick

honestly man when i was trying to learn... reading, videos, even digital games. none of it worked for me.

the ONLY way i got it to click was to straight up go to a place where they do $25/hr lessons. I was out in vegas and this place does lessons, so I went there, got an hour with a guy, and it just clicked right away. it's night and day to actually be there in front of a board, actually throwing, placing (fake) bets, etc. with a trained pro walking you through.

definitely google around to see if there's a place near you that does lessons. one hour, $25, and it all clicks? so superior to loads of reading and videos and other various attempts to study
