Feels like I've watched a lot of great TV over the past year. Better call saul, ozark, barry, andor, house of the dragon, the expanse. I'm about halfway through the wire now.

I was really surprised how good andor and hotd were, I had no interest after bobf and the last couple got seasons respectively, but good reviews got me into both and I'm glad I did.

Barry was also a surprise. I've heard great things but the plot sounded silly so I didn't give it a chance until recently. Very glad I did, it perfectly blends comedy, drama, and action.

PS reminder not to post spoilers and if you use spoiler tags let us know what it is you're spoiling outside of the tag plz n thx

Pretty much the only ongoing shows I'm still watching are CW superhero shows, and CW killed all but two of them (and Flash is on its final season). Once Superman and Lois goes off that's it for me.

just finished Mr Robot recently, it was wild and very memorable

also just finished The Killing, a small detective show that was originally on AMC. I loved the atmosphere and characters, even if the writing wasnt the best

also watched Better Call Sauls final season over the summer and loved it. I just started rewatching Breaking Bad for the first time in 10+ years. just finished season 1.

anything on HBO (the king of TV!): The Wire, The Sopranos, The Leftovers, Succession, Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Eastbound and Down, Six Feet Under

If you ever get a chance you should go to Albuquerque and do the Breaking Bad RV tour. You even get blue cotton candy flavored candy that looks like their blue product.

I've always heard great things about the sopranos but I know what the ending is so that might interfere with my enjoyment.

Ill have to check out that your, I love the universe. Back when the final season of BB was airing, a guy at my work placed dressed as Walt for Halloween, in an orange gas mask jumpsuit, and handed out blue candy

yeah I didnt like the final few seasons of the sopranos, it got very depressing and I didnt like the ending (not the actual ending, but the overall ending of the final season). but that didnt stop me from enjoying the early seasons. Its still on a lower tier compared to other HBO shows like The Wire though

There's nothing of interest airing right now and won't be for another month or so.

I don't think that will ruin anything because the show is all about the characters and storylines. Highly recommend. Deadwood and Carnivale are good HBO shows too.

Korea No. 1 was a solid netflix show if you're vaguely interested in korean culture.
There's a few things I had to google, but it was a good time.

Nothing at all. I'd rather watch a movie or read a book. Something about taking 12+ hours to finish a season of long form TV just doesn't sit with me any longer. Maybe it's because I've been playing more games lately.

ive just become more selective of the shows that I watch. Im not going to invest hours into some stupid poorly made show.

but Ill gladly invest that time if I get to see great characters grow and evolve over time

Calling The Sopranos lower tier is wild to me. Its one of the best shows on HBO. The Wire is still my absolute favorite show though.

I agree HBO is the pinnacle of television and most of their offerings are fantastic, though I feel theyve been wavering the last few years. The Time Travelers Wife was not particularly great, I though Lovecraft Country was too corny, and The Nevers was pretty meh. Though with the former two, I had the same exact thoughts about their source material, wasnt particularly big on either book. But since HBO deviated from the books in both, I cant completely fault the weak source material for my lack of enjoyment. I thought His Dark Materials was overall a decent enough adaptation and mostly enjoyed it, but feel theres a few things that could have been better. Also think Euphoria is vastly overhyped and just a sparklier, edgier version of Degrassi. Avenue 5 has its moments but is overall a missed opportunity. Our Flag Means Death was entertaining enough, though not my favorite thing. Im slightly disappointed Westworld wont get its final season; I thought the fourth season was easily the strongest since the first (and I also didnt think the second was as bad or as hard to follow as people often say, though it can be convoluted). But at least it doesnt have a super dramatic cliffhanger or anything, and where its left is fine enough. House of the Dragon was indeed fantastic. And looking forward to The Last of Us, Love and Death, the next season to True Detective, and their adaptation of The Sympathizer. Also really enjoy Barry, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. So it still has enough high quality and interesting content to keep me subscribed. Also heard great things about Succession and The White Lotus so will probably eventually get to those.

Outside HBO, I think Apple TV+ is shaping up to be the strongest streaming service. Severance was fantastic. Ted Lasso was fantastic. I love Pachinko and any changes it made from the source material were well done and interesting. Im enjoying Servant for what it is (the final season just started). Plan to check out Slow Horses and Foundation at some point as well. Maybe Mythic Quest as well.

Netflix hasnt had a lot of series Im too interested in lately, but recently Ive enjoyed Guillermo Del Toros Cabinet of Curiosities. Its an anthology though, so the quality isnt consistent from episode to episode, but I absolutely loved the seventh episode, The Viewing. Also recently watched Copenhagen Cowboy from Nicolas Winding Refn, and it was pretty decent, but I think his style works better in movies than shows, and I feel like Netflixs binge model does this show a disservice as it would have benefited more from a weekly airing. While beautifully shot and lighted, its fairly slow which it makes not particularly bingeable imo. Hideo Kojima makes a cameo appearance in the last episode though, which was fun lol. And if it happens to get a second season, I imagine he might be a larger part of the series going forward based on his appearance.

As for other shows on other services or networks, the last seasons of Atlanta and Better Call Saul were both fantastic. Love What We Do in the Shadows and looking forward to its future. Thought Kindred was an interesting take on the book, though Im not sure if I like the changes and I think updating the time period changes some important elements, but Im curious to see where they take it so Ill watch the next season. Really anticipating the next season of Yellowjackets (probably my most anticipated show). I keep a Disney+ subscription for Star Wars and Marvel and Andor is easily the best 2022 show out of those offerings, no contest. I was particularly disappointed in Book of Boba Fett, especially the Robert Rodriguez episodes, and Obi-Wan Kenobi was very meh. Though I enjoyed most of the 2022 Marvel shows for what they were, the 2021 shows were overall much stronger. My favorite was probably She-Hulk, but I dont think they stuck the landing. Im generally a fan of meta humor/commentary, but how it was executed there was just unsatisfying.

anyway, thats some of what Ive been watching or have watched. Not a comprehensive list, but Ive covered enough ground for this post

I started episode 1 of season 2 and so far I don't care for any of the characters but I'm sure some will grow on me.

The only death in season 1 I was sad over was Linda. She did nothing wrong and was so innocent :(

I was watching Resident Alien on SyFy (kind of a combo of Northern Exposure or Fargo and SciFi) but stopped halfway through season 2 because I haven't been able to find the time. Looking forward to getting a good look at the new Night Court Tuesday night to see if it's worth watching.
