If conservatives weren't so racist and xenophobic then they'd have a lot of support from demographics that they currently shun. Conservatives are conservatives based on their location. It's the same reason that many conservatives started to support the Taliban when they were taking over the country: the ideals and desires of both groups are the same as they are both conservative in every respect. The racism/xenophobia are just the locational version of the ideology in that who the group in power is will demonize different groups based on who they want to be in power, not because they are somehow different ideologies. In this vein they wouldn't get any support from said groups because the entire point is that both wish for a very small group of elites to control everything, but which are the exact people that they want to control everything is different. Thus you end up with the difference in specific legislation even if the two are the same ideology. --- "A shouted order to do something of dubious morality with an unpredictable outcome? Thweeet!"
