We've made it to the last episode. We started it but as soon as we realized where it was going we decided to stop and leave the penultimate episode as the finale.

Anyone else?

My spouse was traumatized to some level by the last episode to the point that they won't watch the last season again. I don't think they thought it was "bad", but they have... issues with regards to endings in general, particularly when it comes to the end of life/existence. It's definitely a polarizing episode.

Personally, even though the last episode is bittersweet, I thought the way things ended up resulted in one of the most comforting depictions of an "afterlife" that I've ever seen in media, so my reaction to it was more positive.

great ending and cathartic in a lot of ways, but i can see how it can bother people. not on a quality basis, just hits you right in the existentialism.

But then again if you aren't braced for that by the end of the series...

I respect that you're doing this, but for what it's worth, the finale was one of the best episodes of television I've ever seen. Nothing has gotten me in such a visceral way as the series finale of The Good Place.

I have to add to the praise to that show's series finale.

The entire show had some of the best pacing of any serialized sitcom and I am glad they kept it to four seasons. There was prqctically no filler and the ending really hit you hard in the feels.

I agree with the other posters in that it was the most comforting non-religious depiction of the afterlife I've ever seen in media.

It's a lovely ending, but if you're dealing with the subject of the end of everything, I can understand how it's going to be hard to handle or accept for some people.

Chidi's goodbye is one of the most heart wrenching scenes but it all makes sense in the end. Truly a wonderful finale.

The final scene is elenors essence helping that man be a better person by returning the mail. Her spirit is reborn in that sense

Alright, I was going to try and avoid this for TC's sake, but I'll just say that he shouldn't read this.

They're not reborn in any way, it's what Chidi was talking about. Their essence is returned to the universe. The inherent growth and kindness they possessed entered into humanity and made them just a little bit better. That's beautiful and moving, but it doesn't change the fact that they, as people, no longer exist.
