I thought it was a good game, for the most part, the only thing I really disliked was what they did with Vergil's character.

the original Vergil is an edgelord, but they made DmC Vergil into a fedora beard without any kinda honor.

It would have been nice to get a real DMC game in 2013. That was such a bad time for video games and it would have stood out. Would also have been nice to get DMC5 out of the way then instead of turning it into an 11 year wait.

I still wonder why DMC5 Vergil kept the walk to the side while firing one summoned sword at a time and then not dodging while it's deflected move from the shit reboot.

There's a weird aura around this game I see with game journalists. I understand that on a surface level it's a decent action game, but I feel like they spitefully prop it up because of how much fan hate it got even though it's a very flawed game.

It does have better level design than most DMC games. I'll give it that.

It's simpler than that. At first, Capcom told them to like it, so they did. Then, after playing it, they realized the game is much easier and more braindead than real DMC, so they genuinely thought it was superior.

I think it would have been a fun story if it had been a completely new IP. But as a Devil May Cry game it was a travesty.

Once you work past the culture shock and set aside your nostalgia, its glaringly clear that Ninja Theory is the single best thing to ever happen to the Devil May Cry franchiseeyeliner and all.

Like bruh...did you play a previous DMC game? Also something about the story being juvenile and trashy but kinda in a good way. No, it was definitely in a bad way lol. I just...I feel like a lot of these high reviews came from people not closely familiar with the series

It is nice that when people come out and fiercely prop it up (Usually by pretending the backlash was exclusively about the hair color or attacking people who like games in general.) you can immediately identify what kind of insincere person you're dealing with.

Well it was nice, nowadays it barely matters because here in the dystopian video game future, anything hyped will sell and gachas are raking it in.

Thing is, the game itself was pretty fun. It had cool environments and a couple of good boss fights. What sucked was the story, attitude, and overall presentation as part of the DMC series. It was missing all the charm and iconography that made the original so memorable outside of its action combat.

Plus, not for nothing, the color-coded combat mechanics were kind of inhibitive. Interesting concept, and it incentivized the use of a larger variety of weapons than most players would probably use by default, but...it also felt a little too forced.

That was especially funny, because the people who made the biggest deal out of Dante's hair colour were Ninja Theory. It was 100% a straw man.

I think people took that scene too seriously, especially since his hair turned white at the end anyway.

it was just a joke that fell flat with OG DMC fans, who thought Ninja Theory was insulting Dante's hair.

If nothing else, we can thank them for making a game that prompted a complete course-correction which eventually resulted in the best game in the series and a satisfying sequel/conclusion to the threads in DMC4.

If DmC had been extremely well-received we might never have gotten DMC5.

Fun game, not even a terrible story on its own, but as a devil may cry game it just wasn't what the fans wanted.

Yeah and posited his pet OC as a much better character but then she sucked lol.

Reboot Judgement Cut doesn't get dumped on enough.
The way he pulls the sword out and holds it like he's gotta flick the attack toward an enemy or use his sword to target them is way worse than the turbo speed draw/sheath.
The noise is totally botched, if it doesn't go mMMMmm, it's not Judgement Cut.
I liked the DMC3 big purple orb more than the row of blue lines with the glowing twister in the middle too. DMC4 Dante had the big blue lines before the reboot but you could at least say that's Dante's take on the move, less precision more area covered.

At least reboot Killer Bee and Rapid Slash are kinda funny with how lame they are. Judgement Cut just rubs me the wrong way.

I like the DMC3 Judgement Cut End best, the one where it chases you around. It looks like it's pulverizing Dante from every angle and he's just standing there Royal Guarding the thing.
