Doctor has me on a medication, the insurance company keeps wanting prior authorization for the medication, every time I need to get it filled, but the uninsured cost is $2 for a 90 day supply.

On one hand, the doctor prescribed it and I think the insurance company should honor the prescription. On the other hand, it's only $2 and I really don't want to jump through hoops for some damn pills.

Most drugs that require prior auth are because theyre expensive. What drug are they denying payment thats only $2?

Probably what the insurance company is banking on.

If the insurance company is supposed to pay, make them pay. Many of them are shifty, greedy organizations and they pull stunts like this by the thousands. This "only $2" multiplied by the scores of people they're bilking out of their money adds up to millions over time, I'd bet

Part of my hrt treatment. It's being denied because "men don't need that drug"

If your doctor is willing and able to help complete the authorization, go for it. You should be able to get reimbursed as long as the approval is retroactive. The money might not be an issue, but the data might be useful to help make the medication more accessible for others.

Pretty much. Make sure your doctor sends any bills for time spent completing the authorization to the insurance company, just to make sure that turning down this $8/year cost ends up costing them far more than that.

Insurerers are not doctors, are they practicing without a license by giving that advice?

It's going to be a bigger headache for your doctor than the insurance company.
