Watched the first episode and enjoyed it.

Does a good job hitting the nostalgia factor, and the new characters are decent

Finished it.. liked the first two episodes, kinda loved it from 3 to the conclusion. I really want a new season, by the later episodes I felt like all the kids had their own identity, story and likability, except maybe Nikki.

It really does put a heavy focus on the kids, and Red and Kitty, a few characters come back for a few minutes, and the adults really are very small roles.

I think fans of the original and people on the fence will find enjoyment with it, I expected about a 4/10 show relying too heavily on the original cast, and it wound up being a solid 8, with my nostalgia probably firing that up a bit higher. It had some great moments along the way.

pretty much how I felt. Thought theyd try to lean into the nostalgia too hard but felt like they struck a really good balance

Watched the 1st episode. Way better than what I was expecting. None of the new kids are annoying which surprised me. Only real weird part was the Kelso and Jackie cameo. Seems weird for them just to show up like that. Also, if they aren't even going to interact with Donna and Eric they should have saved that cameo for a later episode.

Also, are the Foremans vampires? Red, Kitty, and Eric have barely aged at all.

Any moments of them all sitting around in a circle in a smokey room? Those were my favorite parts of that 70's show. And then Eric goes upstairs and the wallpaper moves.

yes this happens
like in episode 1 when they go into the foremans basement for the first time kitty gives the teens records to listen to and board games to play. but in candyland they find erics old stash and use it
then get into debates like donkey kong being a gorilla instead of a donkey.

which leads to a similar scene with the main character talking to red and kitty but she sees them as video game gorillas

and the old actors appearing are kept to cameos instead of taking over the episodes

Rewatching it again in the background while I work today and noticed something in the first episode that I didnt catch yesterday:

When Donna says Erics 38. The show takes place in 1995, which means hes born in 1957, making him 18 in 1975, but they graduate high school in 1978so he was 21 when he graduated?

literally unwatchable

or it was done on purpose as a meta joke about how fucked up the original shows timeline was lol

funniest part was that an entire episode was spent teaching kitty how to use the internet
and at the end of the episode we learn that both red and kitty basically only wanted the internet for porn

Forgot to make note of how bad Bob looked in comparison to everyone else, he put on a ton of weight and even a small scene seemed strenuous and he got kind of red. I think he's in real bad health.

Have a few more episodes left, the show is actually very enjoyable. Nothing amazing, but but it is like comfort food. It feels like the show has genuine soul and isn't a lazy cash grab. Some jokes miss, but it has genuine laugh out loud moments such as Leo's audition tape to The Real World and Leia trying to find a guy at the mall to kiss. There are even nice subtle moments like Kitty making a ham for Leia's birtday after Leia using it as a euphemism for marijuana.

I think the biggest problem is they are using actual teenagers to play the kids instead of adults like they did in the original show (besides Kunis). Young actors just aren't as good as adult actors besides some exceptions.

I doubt the show will last more than 2 or 3 seasons, but if they get to 1999 you know they are going to have an episode focused on The Phantom Menace and Eric.

Red and Kitty make this show. Every scene with them is gold.

The kids are alright, but I think what weighs them down is the overeliance on teen love drama. They are leaning on the will they/won't they way too early, and is the focus of too many episodes in such a short season.

My memory of 70s show is hazy, but did they have so many episodes focused on crushes and dating so early on? I coupd have sworn the early seasons was more about them just being zany kids in the 70s.

I feel like the strongest scenes with the kids are ones where they get involved in random wacky antics (like the "smoked ham" scene, the hot tub scene, and even the kiss practice scenes). If they tone down the relationship stuff, I feel like it would give them more of a chance to shine comedically.

I do appreciate the 90s references. Not just the obvious ones like AOL or Blockbuster, but the more subtle ones, like the pacifiers at parties or girls snapping each other's bra straps. Nice attention to detail.

I watched the first 2 episodes and yeah I'm liking it. The best parts so far are still from Red and Kitty and Eric's foot in your ass moment.

Im pretty sure that 70s show started out with Eric having a crush on Donna and Kelso and Jackie already a couple. I dont think it wasted time with romance

that 70s show spent a ton of time on romance
eric and donna broke up and got back together all the time
and jackie dates all the guys in the cast other than eric at one point or another
she worked best with hyde but she ended the show dating fez

but in real life aston kutcher and mila kunis got married so in the show she ended up togehter in that 90s show

I think the 10 episode format really limits how much "filler" you can have. That 70s Show had a lot of romance stuff right off the bat, but it was able to balance it out better since it had a full 20+ episode season.

really hope the 10 episodes was just them being cautious and testing the waters, and now that its getting all this positive reception theyll renew it with a longer season. 15-20 episodes, or at least longer episodes.

i looked up all the ages and they cast actual teens to play the teens unlike that 70s show where only jackie was played by a real teenager

jay is the only legal adult in the main cast of teens at 18 years old
the asian kid is the youngest at 13

For what it is worth, it is still the number 1 TV show on US Netflix. Obviously, we have no idea what metrics Netflix uses to continue a show, but it is popular AND cheap to make (compared to other Netflix shows) so I'd say there is at least a fairly decent chance of a season 2.

I just finished That 90s Show.

And I love it. But it reminds me of the good times and bad times of 70s show. Why the fuck did they focus so much on Hyde back then? Was he really that much of a fan favorite?

That 90s Show is a text book example of how to do continuation of an old show.

It keeps the same tone of That 70s Show. It is not afraid to be a dated multi-camera sitcom in an age of prestige shows.

It does cameos, but doesn't overindulge in a "ReMEMbEr ThIS!" fashion. Some parts are actually really sincere and well done such Red telling Bob he is a good grandfather.

Most importantly, it wasn't created to subvert expectations or to be used as a vehicle for some commentary by the show writer(s).

But.. but.. all those jaded dudes in their mid-30s said it was gonna be ass!

Show was actually pretty great. They did a good job balancing the original characters with the new. Though I do wish they had gotten Topher, Ashton, and Mila in one more episode.

I hope theres a second season and that its longer than ten episodes.
