Just watched EEAAO and it was great.
I can watch 5 more with the streaming services I currently have access to. I'll have to get on that soon.

The Hurt Locker in 2009.
Which is the same year the first Avatar was nominated. Obviously that means the war movie will win this year.

yeah... very strong trend... one war movie to win in the past 15 years. and before that i think it was... return of the king? does that count as a war movie? there's big battles and stuff right

before that is braveheart? that count?

no it was a pretty weak year for movies

once the boomer generation dies off with pta, scorsese, spielberg, tarantino, coen bros, etc movies will probably fully become a retrospective medium

I mostly agree with this. I gave 3 tens and 9 nines, which is quite strong for me. However, I also saw 91 movies, which is a record for me, so that in part explains that stronger showing, as I might have missed a couple of them if I had been being more choosey. That said, it was at least a decent year.

I've only seen Banshees. I knew it would get the Best Picture nom, Farrell for Best Actor, and Gleeson for Supporting Actor. But it's nice that Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon also got nominated. Great film.

I would like to get around to seeing Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. But aside from that, Tar, Triangle of Sadness, and Aftersun seem the most intriguing to me.

Barry Keoghan was such a scene stealer. Just awesome.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Not bad. I hadn't thought about it much yet, but there is nothing there that makes me say "hell, no" except maybe All Quiet for Adapted, but then I remember that Adpated is soooooo much weaker than Original this year.

The only thing that upsets me about the nominations are the lack of nominations for RRR (best directed movie of the year IMO, plus a few technical) and Pinocchio. Pinocchio should have been nominated for Adapted Screenplay, score (possibly the best of the year) and production design. The fact that the voters ignored its production design is baffling. The voters just think animation and move on, but they built those gorgeous sets.

Well, and I am upset that Ruben took a directing slot :)

There are a few more

Best Original Score
-John Williams
Best Visual Effects
-Avatar 2
Best Cinematography
-Mandy Walker (Elvis)
Best Makeup
-The Whale
Best Production Design
-Babylon

I think they give score to John Williams because hes not long for this world, the man is on deaths door. I know how much favoritism is in these awards but I would give best score to Volker Bertelmannn for Western Front. Elvis deserves cinematography imo because it was amazingly shot but they might end up giving it to Roger Deakins because hes the greatest.

Possibly. But he has already won it 5 times. They might just give it to somebody else because of that.

RRR is an amazing movie (I personally put it number 6 on my 2022 list), but it's definately not a movie that the Oscars would like lol.

I agree about Pinocchio, but time again and again Oscars have shown to have great disdain for animated movies. Notice they had to put it on a seperate category.

just finished all quiet on the western front. that was punishing. just nonstop terrible gray brown sludge sheen with a weird annihilation inspired score (???). random collection of scenes with no rhythm. why bother watching this garbage when you could just go watch the original instead. or come and see. or a different movie not related to the horrors of war that is good instead of this boring shit. jesus christ, how low are people's standards if they think this is good? does no one have a frame of reference for good movies anymore?
