It's not quite 1:1. There's new rooms and areas and some parts are slightly remixed as well as way more dialogue and side quests that expand on characters that didn't get much focus in the original.

I played the original on an SD TV. I'm excited to be able to actually read the text logs. I'm pretty certain that I missed a lot of the story

Not quite 1:1, it's more like RE1 Remake in terms of how they handled it. I'll just copypasta what I said in another topic.

I kinda miss Isaac's old face but the remake is great. It's the next RE1 Remake in terms of how it handles the original game: removes no OG content (well, I guess except for one...but it was a gameplay segment nobody liked), remixes a few story beats to mess with veterans, and adds completely new content, story and otherwise.

To get into detail on what new stuff the remake offers:
The Ishimura is one giant interconnected map. As such they added brand new rooms and segments to the map to link the different areas together. The tram system is still there for fast-travel.

Power Node doors are gone, instead replaced with some kind of security clearance system. You get a higher security clearance the further you go in the story, and you'll be able to access doors and lockers you couldn't before once you meet the requirements.

Side Missions are brand new and absolutely worth doing, they provide new story and goodies to collect.

Various rooms now have circuit breakers where you can divert power in order to access other parts of the rooms. As an example, one room requires you needing to divert power to a door but you only have two circuits to work with. So you'll need to remove the circuit for the lights in order to open the door, which means the room becomes pitch black. Of course, enemies start spawning more frequently after doing this.

Thanks to the redesigned map, you'll be doing backtracking on a semi-regular basis depending on what the story wants you to do or if you want to go back to previous areas once you have higher clearance, so they added an event director that randomly generates scares to mess with you. Stuff like random noises/screams, stuff sparking or exploding in front of you, lights suddenly flickering or turning off, hallucinations and voices, and of course enemies.

Some things got altered. Zero G segments got redesigned thanks to the new Zero G controls, and remember the awkward cannon segments? Those are completely changed into new gameplay segments...

Issac no longer stands in front of a bomb while waiting for it detonate. Issac will instead plant a bomb, head to safe area then detonate the bomb.
