Kind of sucks if you wanna go somewhere for a while, though. Like I usually go home for at least a month. but sometimes more. So, I guess I can't use Netflix the whole time, there... Which is usually what I want to do at the airport on the way home, or late night and stuff... Or if I ever get deployed (God forbid)...

Or people (boomers and rich folk) with both a summer home and winter home. Oops, I guess they can't get into Netflix when they return to one home, and then go back to the alternate home six months later to find no Netflix there either. BUT THEY STILL PAY FOR IT. *sighs*

When does this take effect?
Never finished Bastard!!, if I can knock it out before it goes into effect then I guess I need to binge

Well that sucks. My family members and I each pay for a different streaming service and share the accounts with each other. None of my family lives in the same State and I live in another country. Looks like Ill be encouraging my mom to cancel Netflix and Ill be watching their content elsewhere.

That, I don't know... I don't think the article mentioned a date... But I would guess soon since they finally seem to have a plan... And according to the article, if this doesn't work, they'll be moving to the next step, which is charging users who continue to give out their login information an extra $3 per login...

Yeah, probably by cancelling Netflix and just watching content on one of the other multiple dozens of streaming services instead.

Netflix really isn't "must watch" at this point. Giving people reasons to drop the service is probably a bad idea.

I share with my sister and the nephews. She lives a few minutes away. Close as she is, I don't imagine we will keep paying for the service at all if it expects her to drag her smart TV over here, or our devices to her place, once a month. Not for the prices they want now.

Wonder if this is going to mess with people who use a VPN to get region-locked content?

I stay in two different places. I stay somewhere closer to work during the week and then go home on the weekends. This is dumb but i dont care that much because Netflix has been pretty shitty for a while.

I feel like this would be difficult to setup/enforce without catching a lot of additional people in the net, but they probably just don't care.

Do they actually think this will get more people to pay for their services? How does this benefit them?

There's better content on literally every other streaming service. The last thing I watched on Netflix was Wednesday. Back when it launched. That was what, 3 or 4 months ago at this point?

You wont have to log in again. You just have to be on it while connected to you home network every 31 days, AFAIK

Netflix is now asking users to connect to the Wi-Fi at your primary location, open the Netflix app or website, and watch something at least once every 31 days.

That would mean if you want your phone, PC, Smart TV, etc, you have to connect to Netflix on that device once every 31 days and watch something. I suppose just booting up anything and then backing out could work but it sounds like such a pain to keep that device connected.

People try to share to help a friend out but I guess Netflix doesn't see it that way. I have it but I hardly watch Netflix. Maybe 2/3 times per month if that. I'm just wasting money on it.

I think its just written weird. I honestly dont think youll be logged out. I think it just means as long as you connect to your home network and watch something within a 31 day period, youre good So, if you get home, just pop on a video on your phone. Youd still be logged in, but you timer should reset

Hmm. Looks like I need to re-activate my personal VPN program I used to 2 months and quickly forgot about....

This is a really bad move for Netflix. Audience dissatisfaction with them is at an all-time high, mostly from their habit of canceling shows and rotating out a lot of their library. Giving viewers a reason to drop them, when competition abounds all over, seems ridiculously short-sighted.

And it's something that absolutely must not be encouraged. It's easy to think it's just $3...until it becomes successful, and everyone else copies it. This is definitely a litmus test for streaming at large. Everyone cut the cable, but streaming has just been slowly morphing into that, and worse.

That said, if you have a Firestick and live near the primary account holder, brining it to their house and logging on every 31 days negates this.

sounds like another reason in a long line of reasons to not care about netflix.

They are probably going to regret this. Lets see how many people unsubscribe.

Well, that sucks at least we knew it was coming. I only really keep Netflix because we gave my mother in law our old smart tv and it was still logged in on there and she gets wifi from a neighbor in her apartment. >_> Netflix is going to war against poor widows!

This sounds eerily similar to the whole thing Xbox tried to do with the Xbox One where it had to be connected to the internet at all times in order to even use the system.

My guess is they will lose a lot of subscribers over this. They're probably hoping they gain subscribers since the people using friend's passwords will want their own subscription, but likely the opposite will happen.

Is this an every time thing, or once a month? If every time I want to watch a show, my sister would have to send me a code, I can see how that would be annoying, but also why not just make a new email address we can both access so I can get the verification code too?

It says periodically. But not how often It was for a week at first, but I dont know if itll change That said, the reason she doesnt make a new email is something you can ask. Most people just make an account with their personal email back when nerflix use to encourage sharing, and it wasnt an issue If people knew that this would be an issue, some may have made joint email accounts But no one knew

It's like their goal is to drive everyone away, what terrible business decisions they have been making

That's also an awful idea. People are just going to pirate again because piracy is a convenience issue.

I agree thats its a bad idea But I dont think Netflix cares about how good of an idea it is They are just making bad decisions, and hoping something works
