Both Republican frontrunners are looking to legislate transgender people out of existence.

I am fully of the opinion that anyone running with that as part of their platform is ineligible, and if voters make a mistake and elect them it should be corrected.

Cause they got nothing else and its the flavor of the "month" outrage from conservative outlets.
"Our internal research shows people dont get as riled up for the border like before, what do we do?"
Theyre also literally using "wont somebody please think of the children" .

But its evil cause youre hurting your own people. Thing is...unless the democrats get an universally loved candidate, Desantis will win.

People who have had bottom surgery will die if they can't get HRT. And because these people are looking to ban all trans based care of any kind, that's exactly what will happen.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

No, they genuinely want us to not exist. They're banning teaching any young people about it so that they don't know being trans is a thing or that transitioning is possible. They're banning medical care for minors so that they'll be adults and they hope many of the youth will be too ashamed to transition having gone through the wrong puberty. They're banning any sort of healthcare coverage by not just making it so private insurance can discriminate against trans healthcare but also trying to make it so that any place that does provide gender affirming care or even has pamphlets on resources that do will not be eligible for Medicare or medicaid payments. Which means no hospital or clinic can afford to do so even if it exclusively catered to trans health. Most of the anti drag bills have secrions making it clear that trans people will be targeted, in some cases like the one in West Virginia it would make it illegal for trans people to be in any public place regardless of how we are presenting at the time.

They know that trans people who have their identity validated are less likely to attempt suicide and therefore by making life impossible for us many of us will either detransition or attempt suicide. They also know that post bottom surgery, if we don't get HRT we WILL die. But they consider us acceptable targets. Because the end goal is for there to be no trans people at all and that nobody will know we ever existed so nobody will be trans in their minds. If they can't get us to detransition they'll jail us or kill us.

This isn't an exaggeration, making it so we can't exist in public or get life saving medical care IS genocide.

Oh no, I'm afraid they care a whole hell of a lot about us! Because they love nothing more than traditional gender norms, traditional patriarchal power structures, and view their children as personal property, and our existence is a lethal challenge to traditional gender norms and challenges both those other things. Our legitimacy shows them for the sham they are!

And they will stop at nothing to preserve them.
But also...remember when people were saying Republicans didn't really care about abortion?

I think there probably is a distinction to be made between Republican political officials and Republican constituents. Everything points to R politicians just using hate towards a protected class to drive support. While constituents certainly feel as you suggest.

It's somehow more repugnant to me that they are willing to drive hatred and violence towards minorities to win eelctions. Would almost be better if they actually believed the shit the spew.

I used to think this too. But then it finally dawned on me one day just how deeply antithetical the LGBT community is on an existential level to the contemporary Republican party, and any similar fascist / authoritarian wannabes; if you're capable of questioning something as fundamental as your sex and / or gender (and have the freedom to do so unhindered), you're capable of questioning anything.

They do believe it, why is it so hard to believe that these politicians genuinely hate minorities? Why is it easier for you to believe that they're just targeting us for political points? Especially when so many make it clear with their tweets and the like that they 100% support people who misgender and deadname trans people and express outrage when one of them gets their account postblocked for doing that.

Because the rhetoric on the right is obviously disengenuous. These are not uneducated and isolated people. These are college educated people with advanced degrees spouting off things that are obviously nonsense. Republican politicians will in one breath brag about their education and then in the next talk about how universities are nothing more than daycare centers for the emotionally unstable. It's not honest.

In the same sense that Hitler and the Nazi party didnt give a flying fuck about Jewish people, and that Jewish people (along with LGBT people, black people, Romani, and others) were just an easy target and attacking them [was] good red meat for rabid conservatives to eat up then sure, I guess.

At the end of the day does it matter whether or not the leaders of these genocidal movements are genuine or sincere in their beliefs?

There's a good reason that Trump had a tweet that contradicted every single tweet he made. It's a grift. These people are (mostly) sitting back and laughing at the stupidity of the average American while they collect their money and power. Republicans don't have core beliefs. They have strategies.

I was really hoping we'd finally gotten to the point where no one outside of his base was still laboring under the delusion that Trump is some sort of 5D chessmaster behind the curtain.

Maybe it's because some people genuinely don't have experience with your average Republican voter. They believe what they say one minute, and they equally believe the next thing they say that directly contradicts what they said a minute before. They do this because they were raised in a deliberately-insular lifestyle where their beliefs were never seriously questioned.

In the sense that they don't think they're people and therefore don't care what happens to them I'd agree...except they've translated that calloused apathy into political action which seeks to slowly eradicate their right to exist.

Whether they truly believe it or not is a fruitless exercise. At the end of the day they are trying to erode the rights of trans people to exist. It is an act of violence, endorsed by people seeking the highest office of the land. No one cares what Haley, DeSantis, or Trump actually believe at this point. What they are doing and supporting has spoken for them.
