Which one are you going to see?

https://deadline.com/2023/02/box-office-knock-at-the-cabin-80-for-brady-1235248828/

Universals Knock at the Cabin won Friday with $5.4M (including previews) and as of this morning its bound to win the weekend $14.5M. Paramounts 80 for Brady, with matinee-priced tickets in several theaters, did $4.7M yesterday (plus previews) for whats looking like an $13M start.

47% of the audience were over 55, 69% women for this Jane Fonda-Lily Tomlin-Sally Field-Rita Moreno ensemble. Thats amazing and a testament to Paramount and exhibitors partnership to drive that demo with lower pricing as they like a value. Another thing to applaud here on this $28M movie: Paramount Pictures Boss Brian Robbins pulled the movie away from streaming and turned it into a must-see for its demographic with the help of worldwide marketing and distribution czar Marc Weinstock and domestic distribution chief Chris Aronson.

If Knock at the Cabin can hold up it will be the first film to open to No. 1 at the domestic box office in 2023, dethroning Avatar: The Way Of Water and will become M. Night Shyamalans 7th film (as a director) to open to the No. 1 spot at the box office.

Guys showed up at 59%, 64% were between 18-34 years old with diversity demos being 39% Caucasian, 28% Latino and Hispanic, 16% Black, & 17% Asian/Other. The Shyamalan movie played best on the coasts with eight of the top ten runs coming from NYC and LA.

Yesterday I watched Knock At The Cabin.

Was almost a 8/10 or 9/10 movie for me.

Sadly, the final act ruined it for me. It was really.... dumb. You can tell the ending was chosen to try to make it as palatable to mainstream audiences as much as possible. Funny how that backfired. Seems like everyone thinks the movie is great, but that the ending really dragged it down.

I'm giving the movie a 7/10.

Weak start for Knock and good start for Brady considering expectations. Brady will make more by the end of its run, with older audiences who don't always rush out at first. Plus, much higher Cinemascore.

Saw it yesterday, was wary after the last few Shyamalan movies I saw (The Village, The Happening, Lady in the Water, The Visit) and was very pleasantly surprised...

Someone on CE had described the second half of Knock diverging in a large way from the book - I read the Wiki of the book after seeing the movie and I agree the movie had been made more palatable, almost a different experience/theme altogether...

Yeah after watching Guardians of the Galaxy and stuff I don't think I can watch a movie where Dave Bautista is like not a clown

Someone posted about how frustrated they were at the ending of the movie over at the movie boards:

*WARNING. MAJOR SPOILERS IN LINK BELOW *

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/227-movies-at-the-theater/80335262

^ But yeah, that seems to be the general consensus. Awesome movie with a trash-tier, dumbed-down ending.

The book ending? Amazing. I posted the spoilers of the book ending in great detail in the link above. Wish they would have gone with that instead because it's simultaneously devastating, beautiful, and moving. Lots of ambiguity and food for thought as well.

He did really good (imo) - like if I hadn't seen him in the comedic/action roles I wouldn't haven even thought of him in his acting here...

It's not the comedic roles. It's the body type. It doesn't make sense for him to be anything other than a superhuman.

I think it's kind of awesome that Bautista is the breaking the mold.

He's big and strong, but so sensitive in real life. He has said multiple times that he is attracted to emotional and challenging roles.

Even though his Guardians of the Galaxy role is his most well known, Bautista has made it clear he wants to find dynamic roles like Knock at the Cabin to earn credit from his peers in the industry.

I always search out interesting roles, but I take them as they come, he said. I take some pride in what I do because Im always searching for roles that will challenge me as an actor. Ive got my year slated and I know what its going to look like, but Im just looking for that next role thats going to give me the same type of fulfillment as this. This fulfilled a lot of my wishes and dreams and what Ive been asking for the last 10 years."

Shyamalan still hasn't explained how that hatch where you have to type in 4 8 15 16 23 42 works. Lost interest after that.
