God that episode was a masterpiece. Wasnt what I expected it was gonna be at all, really. Gave me alllll the feels. Emotionally heavy and overwhelming, not gonna lie.

It can honestly hold its own as a standalone short film.

I never had a PlayStation after the PS2, so never got to play the game.

But the story is phenomenal, and the acting and directing of the show is top notch. HBO hit it out of the park. You really need to check it out!

That's the thing that kept me from loving the episode as much as everybody else seems to. It truly does feel like a standalone short film rather than a part of a greater story being told.
The writing and acting are top notch, but the entire episode I kept thinking "Up managed to convey these same emotions in a 5 minute scene. Why am I spending a feature film length's time with these characters that will never appear again?"

Becsuse its Joels entire motivation to do some good in the world now. That suicide letter from Bill was what the entire episode was building up to. It set up some future character development for Joel to now actually care about taking care of Ellie and maybe finding some hope at saving mankind.

I don't get the weight that this letter is supposed to carry with Joel. If we are to believe that Joel had a close relationship with Bill, the show does a poor job of conveying that. I can assume there are a number of traders and black markets in this world.

What about Bill made him special to Joel and give his dying words any value at all?

Putting aside that Joel has been friendly with a grand total of three people so far, it's less about who the letter's from and more about what it says.

^^ careful with spoilers dude. Id black that stuff out.

I dunno if its about carrying this massive weight. Its more like a trigger to spur something in Joel to do better. He clearly saw that Bill loved Frank. I dont think its about Bill and Joels relationship. Its about Bill and Franks. Joel saw that love and knew they literally lived for each other.
