a guy spilled his drink on stage and later I said he spilled 8 dollars worth of ice. that got some laughs

then I pretended to scooby doo run in place on the wet spot. that got fewer laughs, if any

it's a regionally relevant club and the owner (who is a touring comedian) was there. hope I don't get blacklisted

It's more of a power dynamic thing. if it's a club, there's more egos involved and generally everything is professional. and the fact that clubs blatantly overcharge for everything and enforce drink minimums plays into that, you don't want to come after their money

if it's a bar wgaf but generally don't take shots at the people controlling your bookings/reputation

I just get frustrated with the whole game
