Its such a weird insult. I can leave my place, get in my car, and get to my place of work without touching grass. Hell, I can even take my daily walk without touching grass either.

They're different though. "Pound sand" is basically a less vulgar way to say "get fucked."

"Touch grass" is telling the person to get a grip and come back to reality.
