Eventually, Homer and Marge then continue to drink heavily for several days, until Marge suffers a particularly painful hangover. She tells Homer that they should not be drinking, and he agrees. Unfortunately, when they go to an Oktoberfest featuring Grammy-winning nuclear polka band Brave Combo, Marge, who tries to go through the night without drinking, gives in and ends up drunk (again), along with Homer. He tries to drive them home, but, in a drunken stupor, overturns the car.

In order to avoid an arrest, Homer makes things look like that Marge (who is much more drunk than him) was the driver. The police arrive and she is arrested, but Homer bails her out. Later, Barney suggests that Marge should go to a rehab clinic for a month, and while Marge is gone, Homer lets Flanders take care of the kids. When he sees her at the clinic, he confesses, but Marge is relatively furious with Homer for getting her arrested and drinking again. Eventually, the other rehab patients at the clinic help her discover that she likes being with Homer more than drinking, so she forgives him and returns home with him.

Ive been in almost the exact same situation. I was passed out, slumped over in the passenger seat. lady that was driving ended up flipping the car. only later on, like months later I heard from my friend that was with us driving her own car that the lady that flipped her car and her attorney were considering trying to blame me for the wreck and say I was driving because I was passed out drunk

He literally ruined Barneys life.

It's definitely up there, but it's in competition with the time he literally destroyed Springfield with garbage, ran away from the operation to give Abe a kidney, destroyed the Bill of Rights, and getting everyone in town domed in and nearly killed in the movie, and that's not all.

Oh yeah, speaking of ruining lives, he essentially ended Grimess life by driving him insane.

Homer is the reason Ned's first wife died. But why single out Homer? The whole family's done some pretty terrible things to each other, I remember Marge power tripping one time and flat out raping Homer, Lisa ruining people's lives because they dared to be smarter and more talented than her and Bart ruining several people's lives for a laugh.

The important thing is that in the end, he shortened his life significantly so someone else could have a slight extension of theirs.
