On talking to her kids about anything and everything:

I hate the word taboo. I think it should be stricken from the dictionary. There should be no topic thats off the table for people to talk about. I know its shocking, but I talk to my kids about drugs, and the fact that their daddy is an addict, and hes in recovery, and we talk about sex. There are all these hard topics that dont have to be if you give the person on the other end your vulnerability and a little bit of credit.

On the number one thing shes teaching her kids:

Making amends and apologizing is an important thing in our family, because humans leave carnage wherever they go. I really respect when someone does something wrong or hurtful and they apologize. Im like, Yeah, right on. Thats important. If theres one thing I want to teach my kids, its how to make amendsand that its for themselves, so they can like whos in the mirror a little bit more.

On why husband Dax Shepard is her game changer and how he instills confidence in her:

My husband keeps my mind and heart open and moving forward every single day, because hes a challenger. We disagree about 99 percent of the things on earth, which is just fun and interestingI often feel underqualified, whether for an acting scene or a parenting moment. When I feel wonky about my day, I tell my husband, I like doing this, but I dont really know what Im doing. And he goes, All you need to do is get the project to the finish line. When I think about it like that, I realize I might actually be good at it.

I fully believe in not lying to kids when they ask questions about things like this.
That doesn't mean you need to get into explicit details and start telling them what weird fetishes are out there and the like. But why lie or keep silent when a child is curious and trying to learn?

You can always adopt if you wish to have kids in the future.

Enough to provide basics/warnings, but beyond that it's up to them if they want to know more. I'm asexual, so I know full well how it might just not be relevant to one's interests and that I wouldn't want to be constantly lectured about something I don't care about.

She should absolutely talk to her kids about sex. And addiction, everybody with a family history of addiction should make sure their kids understand that their chances of getting addicted to drugs and alcohol are higher than the average person.

Tbh they generally ask questions when they want to know. Unless you shut that down and make this a topic you never talk about, theyll ask....

Most teens dont want to talk to their parents about sensitive topics such as sex and drugs. I know i didnt want to.

Do kids even still need the talk? Did they ever? I never got it and I don't even know what it's supposed to entail at this point. All the information is just out there and kids get it themselves pretty early and easily.

I don't see anything wrong with any of that. It's better to be open about all of that than keeping mum about education and risking their kids getting caught up in some shit.

My parents never talked about sex and I didn't want them to. I got all I needed to know from friends and reading up on it myself. Then later in Sophomore health class, but I already knew the basics by then. None of us 4 kids ever had any unwanted pregnancies or anything like that (though granted 1 of them is gay)

Yes. Kids will know about sex eventually no matter how much you try to shield it from them because sex is nearly everywhere. You hear it on the radio, its in movies, all over the internet, and they will hear about it from other kids at school. So there is no avoiding it.

So Its important that I talk to them about it and tell them right from wrong than if they find out from other sources, attempt to try it and make a huge mistake.

Birch I'd talk to anyone about sex if they'd let me. People need to relax and admit sex is hot and not shameful. Unless you're a virgin.

are we talking about sex as a whole (lul) as in what it is, or are we talking about personal sex life stuff? because when my wife was a young teen, maybe even younger, her mother used to tell her about her sex life all the time and it definitely was not appropriate to be sharing intimate details like that to a young mind

Yes they do, youd be shocked at how lacking sex ed in school is. I live in my blue state and there wasnt talk about how to prevent pregnancies.

I talked with my kids when they were in 6th grade and I was told them they can always ask me anything. I also got into making sure they understand consent. And that they can always retract consent at any time.
