But the second movie, that's something else entirely. I don't think I've seen such a quality jump between two movies in a long time. Everything from the movie's pacing, the character development, the villains, and the animation are top quality. It even takes common movie tropes and fully subvert them. I also love how it continues the "reference other fairy tales" schtick of the Shrek series but in a way that is fresh and not played out. But I think the strongest point to this movie is how dark it is. It doesn't shy away from deep philosophical topics that actually warrant discussion after the movie.
