Do you think Gunn will bring black Superman to the big screen?


even in his interviews Gunn was just being a dick, we want a younger Superman (as if cavil were 50 lol). No, not teenage, no, not superboy, just younger (in other words: I dont want cavil)
Do you think Cavil was out because black Superman is in?

As a nerd, this change would be so easy to make. Just say that some timeline change caused Krypton to shift closer to its sun. So instead of a Donnor like ice planet, we get an African plains like planet. Then shoot Superman to 1950s Earth.

Can you imagine a scene where cops are spraying down Civil Rights protesters and black Superman floats down like, hey, so whats going on here? How would the civil rights era Earth handle their greatest hero not being able to drink out of the same water fountain as whites? Would the civil rights movement be better, or would it be worse because white people felt forced to support civil rights? And you know the villains would be a group of racists plotting to kill Superman. Lex Luthor as the head of the KKK or just manipulating them to gain power?

You would need a great writer to make it work. I could see why the studio would just pay someone to write a movie about white Superman punching Zod again. Easier to do.

I'm not sure how that quote by itself even implied the possibility of a black superman.

But I do understand them wanting a younger one for a universe that's going to last decades possibly.

Hell even cavill in his early 30s was two old. And idk what synders long term plan was for a batman well past his prime with practically no storys to adapt at that point.

Look, all I'm gonna say is that Miles Morales is practically universally beloved. Mostly because he's his own original creation and not just "black Peter Parker."

What they should do is introduce a new heroic kryptonian to the mainline DC universe, not an alternate world or anything, but the real DC universe. No reason he can't coexist with Superman, Superboy, and Supergirl.

When in doubt, always make a new character instead of altering the original. That way, your character has longevity. When you change an existing character, nothing stops the next author from changing him back as soon as they get creative control.

But if you make a new character, then there's no "changing him back," because his most original form is what you made him to be.

Just saying, Miles Morales is going to be around forever, whereas "black Peter Parker" would have most likely been remembered as a publicity stunt.

I think there are diminishing returns based on how iconic the character is, though. How many people knew off the top of their head what Heimdall looked like before the first Thor movie?

How many people knew about Nick Fury in detail before Iron Man?

Everybody in America knows who Superman is and what he looks like. You don't fuck with iconic imagery that way. It just becomes "another version"

The thing about DC though is they constantly create elseworld or alternate versions of their own characters all the time. There have been several black "Superman" characters that DC has already created, and none of them were ever envisioned as supplanting the original. They're just alternate characters that bear the Superman moniker - unlike Steel, who is not Superman at all.

If people can accept Superman being Russian, or a girl, or a teenage clone of himself, or Zod, or whatever other kind of variant of the character that donned the symbol and paraded around as Superman, then it's kinda weird that they'd clutch their pearls and can't accept one that's black.

He was never Russian though. He is an alien.

Sure they can retcon Krypton to not be all white people as I think it for some reason was but that will be a funny thinf to really trigger nerds.

I suppose for a race who absorbs the sun they should actually have green skin.

Miles Morales is also literally just an "Elseworlds" type of character too. He hit the mainstream in an event that literally saw his whole universe get erased, except for him, then shoved him into the mainline universe.

They should have translucent skin and then as they absorb more sunlight he should get darker and darker. Superman One Million should be so dark and black that he sucks light into his body like a black hole.
