I assume nobody here played them all...

Based on what you played, read about etc.

I wasn't sure about including VB since it was bad for different reasons than the others. Not including R-Zone because I wanted it to at least be a question.

A bad consoles is one thing but the Virtual Boy is notorious for giving you eye strain within minutes of use not to mention it was heavy and strapped to your head.

I'm too young for the first 3 so I went with the Ouya, the interviews with its spokeswoman where she clearly knew nothing about the console still astounds me. I don't understand how anyone bought into it.

The Virtual Boy didn't strap to your head. It came with a little stand. You would put it on a desk or a table and kinda lean forward into it.

This is a good point. Consoles that suck because they have no games and are wastes of money are one thing, but actively harming users kind of puts the VB in a tier of its own.

The CDI, Jaguar and Ouya all objectively blow, regarding everything. Most of their 'best' games were just worse versions of already playable games. Virtual Boy might've murdered your eyes, but actually had a few decent games. Although maybe I'm just Nintendo fanboying, since the games I'm thinking of are Mario Tennis and Wario Land, which objectively are better on other consoles.

I've played them all except for the Ouya.

This is why this question is a no-brainer for me. Sure, the CDI was expensive and had crap games. Sure the Jaguar got steamrolled by the PS1, N64, and Saturn. Sure, the Ouya... was the Ouya.

But only the Virtual Boy caused literal pain when you tried to play it.

I'd probably even rank the Virtual Boy as being worse than the N-Gage, the handheld where you literally had to remove the battery to put a game in (masterful engineering!). I'd even rank it worse than the Phantom (a console so crap it literally didn't exist!). Any poll that includes the Virtual Boy is effectively making the Virtual Boy worst by default.

And ironically, the Jaguar wasn't even really THAT bad. At most it had the bad luck to come out at a time when the market was flooded with great options while suffering from Atari's damaged reputation from previous generations (which is essentially the same thing that killed the Dreamcast).

Virtual Boy is really the only bad console on that list. Since it is the only one that is actually bad for your health. I got headaches from playing it when I rented one from Blockbuster as a kid. The rest just have a lack of good games (although they all have at least one or two).

The Jaguar really only has a bad controller, and lack of 3rd party support because it is an Atari console that wasn't from the 70's.

CD-I really isn't a game console, it is just notable as one because of the Zelda and Mario games. I remember my 4th grade class having one and never knowing it could play games until it became a popular joke 15-20 years later.

Ouya I can't really comment on since I never played one, but from everything I heard it is basically just a Android device.

Virtual boy is the worst one by a landslide, even if you can put up with the constant headaches it also requires a really odd way of sitting to play it you have to set it on the table then like kneel in front of it or have a very high table that allows you to use it while sitting down.

The hoops you have to jump through to use one is ridiculous.

If you did attempt to strap one to your head using any means it would likely cause neck strain, the thing was damn heavy and that was why Nintendo didn't have it come with one.

Which is why you then strap your head to the back of your chair! Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

I have a feeling a good portion of the internet has never used one, the thing came out in the mid 90's, and it was taken off the market pretty damn fast. So even those that were alive when it hit might have never used one.

If you had a subscription to Nintendo Power back then, you could have rented one with three games for three days for a reasonable price (I think $29.99). That is where most of the ones on the market came from, because I doubt many people wanted to go out and buy one after renting it and having to deal with all the crap.

That is how I tried it out.

I picked mine up from Toys R Us about 4 or 5 years after it came out. They were fire selling them brand new in the box for like $70. I was curious what it was like so paid that price, even at $70 it felt a bit overpriced. I assume it was just back stock that Toys R Us had that never sold that was sitting in a warehouse for a few years.

Turns out that buying them at that price would end up being a steal because now a new in box one has way more value on sites like Ebay. Even used they go for like $170 or more and that is if they are nowhere near mint condition.

I never played it at the time, but a friend of mine went on a quest to buy literally every console ever made years later (in the mid 2000s or so) and he picked one up then. Which is when I played it.

So there are still Virtual Boys out there. They're not impossibly rare or anything (though probably moreso now).
