Is that story true? Doubtful. If they had been on paid leave for months, they wouldn't have access to the supposed call to arms that Musk's cousin did on Slack. Even if it were true, this isn't the UK, where you can sue for libel at the drop of a hat. You must have direct, irrefutable evidence that it did material harm to your brand and worth. There's enough grey wiggle room there for the defendant to argue that Musk's own actions have done more harm to his brand than a disgruntled ex-employee telling everyone that you lost a pissing match with an octogenarian.

He's been doing this already, ever since he took over Twitter if you look at his attempts to "comeback" or "one-up" someone else, it always has about 20% more likes than the person's post. It's always a specific amount to make it seem like he just naturally got more likes and "won" the exchange.
