If they win against Youtube, all sites are the internet are going to ban people from posting any content cause they can be held liable for it.

Case is going in front of the Supreme Court that could basically make websites liable for everything that is on the site and/or pushed by it's (specifically youtubes) algorithms

I'll defend Legal Eagle here in that he does also make shorter videos, but his longer videos are usually to thoroughly explain things and explain complex legal semantics in more understandable ways. I'm actually a fan of his & the way he explains things

This, tbh. He breaks down complicated issues and explains context very well. If its a bit long for some people I understand though.

Does this mean Facebook and Twitter would have to shut down?

If I understand correctly all they might have to do is remove anything that automatically curates content to users. It would depend on how much of 230 the SC decides to tamper with. At the moment the contested part is that by recommending content to users Youtube et al stop being a platform to host content and start being a move active "publisher" of content hosted.

I'm really at a loss as to why conservatives want tot go after Section 230 so much. Maybe that video breaks it down. It sounds to me that if Section 230 was repealed then all that would do is give these social media companies the incentive to target free conservative speech for real in the way that they fear because now the companies would be held liable to the things that people say, and conservatives are constantly posting death threats, rape threats, hate speech, and other sorts of things where they wish to inflict physical harm on people. Section 230 is a conservatives best friend, not their enemy.

And realistically, if that's all that happens, its not that bad. However, there's no telling how the SCOTUS will handle this case. They might decide to uphold 230 as is. They might decide to scrap it, which would force a divided congress to either draft a new Free Speech On The Internet protection bill (yeah right) or it would make hosting websites equally liable for any content on their sites. It could also be anywhere in between. With the conservative slant of the SCOTUS atm it is difficult to say where they'll come down. 5 years ago I don't think they even would have heard this issue. Now? Who knows

This part, which is something conservatives have been pushing to make happen for awhile now. If, for example, Facebook can be held liable for anything posted on their website that puts them on the hook for any "libel" their users spread about, say, a politician.

This claim has already been made multiple times in multiple courts and defeated each time. Facebook and Google in particular have already defeated it in one of the circuits that allows at least some claims based on third party content posted on these platforms.

Also, these people are incredibly stupid. Liberals and leftists can get by without posting racist stuff, threats of violence, etc. But that's what conservatives seem to think conservative speech is, and that's exactly what will get nuked from orbit without Section 230. Any conservative talking about anything other than dry tax policy will be banned.

Maybe it's all part of a gambit. They realize they are not actually being censored by big tech now, they're being boosted. But they want an even bigger boost. They want actual direct control, so they're gonna get rid of 230, get super mad about them being banned into oblivion for planning coups and lynchings on Facebook, then use that outrage to shutter or control social media companies.

This completely ignores the fact that the Supreme Court is rigged in such a way that even the slightest crumb of plausibility means that the regressive opinion will be the majority.

Until 2 or more of the bought justices croak or are "Encouraged" to retire, this country is in deep shit.

Republicans would get rid of user-posted content on the internet tomorrow if they could. It would just become a bunch of corporate sites and commercials like cable TV.

I don't know how more people can't see this. They've won the popular vote one time since the internet started to be adopted by average households, and they've never won it since social media and smartphones became widespread with Obama's first election.

The free spread of information has been a complete disaster for the Republican party.

"But Trump was boosted by Facebook in 2016" yes he was but it's a drop in the bucket and he still lost the popular vote by millions.

This could also explain it. It's part of the overriding drive towards the commodification and commercialization of everything that's infected everything on that side, down to their religion and their metaphysics.

It can be pretty bad for any new creators. Accessing new content is going to be a lot harder, which will kill newbies and make the rich get richer.
