yes, it is nuts. i am like 60/40 that he committed these murders but the prosecution has been a trainwreck and i don't see how they get a conviction unless the jury just decides to convict no matter what.

murdaugh is definitely a snake and will be in prison a very long time even if he walks on the murders, but you would think the prosecution wouldn't be so incompetent in one of the biggest murder trials this millennium

People who murder their own families to escape accountability are simply unforgiveable.

ehh it seems likely but the prosecution doesn't really have any evidence tying him to the murder. the strongest evidence they have is his voice in the dog tail video and they claim the murders happened around 8:50 but the coroner claimed between 9-930 so their assertion is only speculative.

also the defense made the lead investigator admit on the stand yesterday to lying to the grand jury and the lead prosecutor has largely been shit.

Basically he killed his wife and his son

the timeline doesn't make sense if he acted alone. all of his movements and location is documented basically down to the second via his vehicle and phone data. there was no time to clean up the bloody clothes or ditch the clothes/guns.

i think if he did it he had an accomplice, the timeline just doesn't make sense otherwise.

maybe he is secretly a set of twins, that has happened before

the most damning prosecution evidence by far is the dogtail video and the car data that shows he called 911 within 20 seconds of arriving at the kennels. i think both can ostensibly be explained by the defense and i don't believe the state has proven its version of events but i do think if they don't do a good job of poking holes in the two issues listed above that the state brought up a conviction is likely.

i think alex murdaugh being involved in the murders or at least knowing they happened much sooner than he admitted is likely, i just don't buy that he was a lone gunman like the state is arguing.

alex is testifying right now in his own defense. this testimony will make or break the case.

so far he is doing well but this is just on direct. the cross will be explosive and how he handles it will decide his fate imo.

i still don't see how he could have been the sole shooter. he may be guilty of setting it up but just no way he could have cleaned up after being covered in blood and ditched the evidence with no dna or blood from paul in his car.

the cross made alex look like the sleazeball he is but the prosecutor didn't come off very well at all imo and seemed like he got pissed more than murdaugh did. also they only asked him about financial crimes, didn't mention at all anything to do with the murder after the prosecutions opening statement.

it will come down to how alex murdaugh handles the cross about his timeline of events. i could see this going any way from a jury perspective from here.

he admitted on direct that he was at kennels during that video which is essentially what he had to do, but it makes it hard to explain how he wasn't there when the murders likely happened within 15 minutes of that. i don't think that alone is enough for the prosecution in my mind but it may be enough for a jury to convict if alex doesn't do an amazing job on the stand tomorrow.

i thought he did ok overall today but he will need to do better tomorrow and will need to be especially convincing when talking about the timing of the murders

My mom has. I have on and off. I think he is going to get off. He is old money in South Carolina they never lose. Not even after the Civil War because of Johnson.

even if he gets off of the murder charge he will be spending decade(s) in prison for the financial crimes, and that is even before addressing all the federal charges waiting on him too.

no, he hasn't been on trial for any of the financial or drug charges but he just admitted to all the financial crimes on the stand today in open court.

Yeah I've been wondering this too.

His one ex-partner from the law firm he took money from said they wouldn't pursue the financial stuff after his wife and son were murdered. Could this be motive? Alex wouldn't have known that though.

I keep changing my thoughts. One thing has stuck with me is that his son Buster said the words he used was "they" did him so bad and that his dad had repeated that many times the night of the murder.

I don't get why this dipshit, an accomplished attorney with an attorney of his own, chose to talk to the cops on 3 separate occasions lol.

From what my friend, watching it pretty closely, says, it doesn't seem beyond reasonable doubt he killed anybody and indeed seems like a bunch of other people had motive to kill these people (say, all those people he did financial crimes on)
And then the prosecution is just talking a bunch about financial crimes to...make him look bad? Doesn't mean he killed his family.

and don't forget, there were a lot of people upset with his son because of the boat accident, upset with Paul and possibly wanting revenge on family as well.

Not sure which way I'm leaning yet.

Yeah. It seems he should go "free" on the murders, go to jail for the financial crimes, and then we're stuck not knowing definitively enough who actually killed his family - and I'd give it decent enough odds it was somebody else, so we're going to lose out on them coming to justice.

One of the first things he said when he took the stand yesterday was "I would never intentionally" kill my wife and son.

Is he or are they trying to get manslaughter added to charges? Jury might more easily go with that.

A lot of not guiltys in the chat feeds.

And, I hate to say it, but, though it's highly probable, I don't think they've gotten to beyond a reasonable doubt.

it is well established that murdaugh is a liar, thief and scumbag but the state has the burden of proving that he did it beyond all reasonable doubt and i don't think they have.

he started out looking terrible on the stand today then he rallied and started making the prosecutor look bad, now they are watching a video of his original police interview.

I dont see where he is making the solicitor. Alex looks scummy over and over. His family is dead and he is lying to police.

it is well established he is a liar, i just don't think reiterating that he is a liar does anything to strengthen the state's case. the cross has been mostly bad for alex outside of a few moments but for me that doesn't change the material facts of the case.

i do think he will either be convicted or get a hung jury though, i don't imagine that he will get a full acquittal after this performance on the stand.

He is going to get off. All that Paul-Paul and Megs bullshit going to win throws low country old money people over. I don't have faith in that part of the state to do the right thing.

Watching the trial it sounds like they want to convict him of lying more than anything. Really spinning their wheels here.

the jury isn't old money people though, it's just regular citizens.

if the jury takes their oath seriously i would think they would render a not guilty on the murder charges and smoke his boots on the financial crimes but usually juries in high profile trials feel pressure to come back guilty outside of the couple of instances of anomalies like oj simpson and casey anthony

let's be real alex is a narcissist and probably always wanted to testify but the judge letting in everything the prosecution asked for i am sure made it easier to convince his attorneys that it was a good idea
