It's cause he became the top of the food chain without trying. And they don't really understand it's cause he stayed genuine. Which made him never lose fans, rather just keep gaining new ones. Even if his takes are shit, it never feels like he's ever saying anything he doesn't actually feel in the moment.

I disagree with the majority of the takes he has. But I like him cause I can tell he's never trying to actually manipulate or con anyone.

Which, if you're starting off by mimicking someone else's style, you're already trying to manipulate and con people.

I didn't even like him at first because all I knew was he had bad takes on things I liked lol

His YouTube account is also known as "Penguinz0", he's been going for about 16-17 years now. One of the first people on YouTube.

When he started out he would do short gameplay videos titled "(Game) Gameplay and Commentary" with the video description "This is the greatest _____ of all time"

Opens every gameplay video with "What's up everybody it's Critical, today I'm playing _____, let's do this shit" in a monotone, or some variation of it.

My sense of humor was so molded by the Best Friends that I have to actively try not to quote or reference them when playing a game with people, lol. Especially when I see a character who is either played by (or looks like) a celebrity I know, I'll reflexively say the celebrity's name in the same incredulous tone that Matt does.

Same with Whose Line Is It Anyway? and Archer; some things just hit me in the right way at the right time in my life to stick with me and become a part of how I make jokes, whether I like it or not.

Anyway, Critical's hilarious. One of the only youtubers I can bring myself to watch.

He just seems to hate openworld. He had negative opinion on rdr2 too which was more obvious during his streams.. Altho he still gave it an 80% despite some "glaring issues" prob to not get canceled. I understand the opinions about him being vanilla.

Two things that I have really begun to hate. VaatiVidyas voice cadence and his imitators, of which Im noticing more and more. Along with the editing of his videos Its so forced and pretentious to make the content seem more interesting and profound.

But the thing that once you hear it, you cant I hear it.

Every single person making content these days uses Now at the beginning of sentences. I swear its been this slow takeover of people ripping off other peoples video essay style of speaking. And throwing a now seems to give them the illusion that what theyre saying has more merit than it actually does. Maybe thats just me lol.
