I disliked that change, but I understand why they did it. They had a brain-damaged Galvatron speaking in a high-pitched "crazy old man" voice to disguise the transition from Leonard Nimoy's voice back to Frank Welker's. I would have preferred a continuity error where his voice is different between film and television.

They never should have killed Prime.

The Ultra Magnus toy was a recolor of Optimus Prime. They could have just come up with an in-story reason for Optimus receiving an upgrade which came with a new color scheme. Ultra Magnus didn't need to be his own character. Don't get me wrong, it was a great scene. But there's no real point to go on watching the show without him.

Frankly, Transformers: The Movie should be taught in film school. If you kill the emotional center of the series, you kill the series. Star Wars going from the theater to Disney+ is like Sega going third-party.

Earlier this year a movie script that was written even before the cartoon premiered was revealed. It was quite different taking place in 1987, but some movie characters did exist in it, while others had counterparts, and they still killed Optimus and reformatted Megatron into Galvatron.

The death of Optimus Prime was always on the table. The screenwriter begged and pleaded with them not to do it, but they were unrelenting. They were like, "Nah, kids don't care about characters. They just care about toys. And we need them to buy new ones." He told them what would happen and it did. The series was cancelled and the toy sales dried up.

Nearly 40 years later, Hollywood still hasn't learned its lesson. You can swear up and down that the Mandalorian is better than the Skywalker saga if you feel that way. But, objectively, Disney Star Wars has underperformed financially.

I was going to come in with a troll answer about the worst of the live action Transformers movie being the best but I just cant do it.

Love the 86 movie and hope each generation that sees it falls in love with it as us older fans did.
