This is the first company I've worked that that's willing to spend the money on Macs for network engineers.

I've started to go into coding a little bit, so this was the recommended next step, according to the people on the team who have coding experience.

You can probably code faster and their laptops have excellent battery life

Gaming and operating system aside, these m series Macs are ridiculously capable machines for the price point theyre at.

Yeah, just in the hour or so I've been here at the headquarters, I've had to plug my windows laptop back in while the Mac still has a mostly full battery even with a bigger screen.

Don't like the mac OS, but it's strictly a preference thing and because Visual Studio for Mac is a terrible piece of software.

Where I work people can choose macs or dells and the IT staff hates macs because they're borderline incompatible with half the infrastructure, require constant maintenance due to patch cycles, and are constantly struggling with software dependencies because they're not QUITE unix.

Users tend to love them, though.

I greatly dislike working in python, and consider myself lucky to have needed to interact with python exactly 0 times in my professional career.

Was given a Macbook when I started my current job. Once I got my workflow figured out, I prefer it over Windows.

A couple things I'd recommend you download.

Homebrew - Allows you to install CLI tools. https://brew.sh/
Cask - Like Brew but for GUI software.
Imagine all your tools and apps managed by one tool. Not everything is on the Mac store after all. Easy to run a single command that'll update every tool and app on your computer. Basically a yum/apt-get but for Mac.
iTerm2 - Replacement for the Mac terminal. https://iterm2.com/index.html

This is my first experience with coding at all, so I'm not familiar with any other coding languages.

And wow, this machine is pretty slick. It'll take a bit of getting used to, mostly the command key vs the Windows key... And the network components are different, so I'll probably have to adjust the code I've written for that. I think I can figure that out, though.

A few things to get used to, but overall this is great. There's no Notepad++ for Macs, so I'll probably just use my IDE exclusively since the functionality is similar any way.

I'll have to get SecureCRT installed tomorrow since our machine support people control the license distribution and all that.

The more I dive into the different settings, the more I'm liking it. Stage Manager is a really good way of managing multiple open applications at the same time. The one you're using is front and center on the monitor and the others are on the side, but you can see each window. I'll give this a shot for a while.

Nice. MacOS > Windows. Linux is best though.
