Schoolgirls were left in tears after a male teacher inspected their skirts, according to reports. Rainford High School in St Helens has come under fire for enforcing its uniform policy which requires girls to wear knee-length skirts, with many parents and pupils claiming male teachers were involved in the inspection of the skirt length.

The school's headteacher said they have recieved "no evidence" that any members of staff did "anything other than behave in a professional manner".

They said concerns raised by parents over how the school has dealt in "challenging students" over this issue will be "investigated fully", reports the ECHO.

Over a thousand people have signed an online petition against the policy, with many calling it "ridiculous" and "outdated"

Parents claim while some pupils are taking advantage of the school's rules, others are being punished when their skirt is an inch above the knee despite not deliberately rolling their skirts up.

But it is the enforcement of the policy that many have taken issue with, as parents claim pupils are being asked to line up in the school auditorium while their skirt length is inspected, in some cases by male teachers.

One woman said she signed the petition against the uniform policy "because my granddaughter came home mortified that her skirt height was inspected by a male teachers in front of male pupils".

Another parent said: "My daughter came home in tears after this debacle."

If some chick is wearing a micro skirt then punish her. Don't harras every girl in the school with this total nonsense.

If only schools cared about, say, bullying as much as they do their dress codes. They were always ridiculous. School dress codes were always about getting rid of "distractions", but it was always about control and messing with students.

It's pretty fricken obvious if someone is going to violation a dress code like that in any meaningful way.

Skirts as part of the uniform is weird. Just make pants the uniform and you don't have weird shit like this happening.

It's disgusting how obsessed some teachers are about the clothes girls wear. Stop harassing them and do something important like actually teach them.

If someone is breaking the rule you should be able to tell without lining everyone up for inspection. Doing it this way means the rule is more about control than practicality, they're literally just looking for people to punish

This. It's not like the policy is "skirts must be x inches long" it just says knee length. You don't need to fucking manually inspect to see if it goes to a girl's knees or not. Screw those teachers that are doing this

I remember my high school geometry teacher doing this, he'd make girls take their sweatpants off too if they were wearing them under their skirt.

As a male teacher, the unspoken policy about dress coding girls is "Leave it to the women teachers and don't mention it to anyone."

Unless it's, like, incredibly obviously bad. Like this one HS girl just straight up walked around in a sports bra once >_>. Then I had to say something to admin because that's just ridiculous.

I catch more boys breaking it anyway. Hats, hoods, cutoff shirts, and weapon/drug references on clothing.

It was against dress code but he was the only one who ever enforced it.

A lot of schools seem to be a few generations out of touch with their rules.

I'm guessing because the Board of Trustees are often ex-students who expect the current students to have the same rules they had when they were at that school.

Which is probably made worse by those older rules also being out of touch in that time, for similar reasons.

About 8 years ago, it got up to 113 F (45 C) in L.A. The next day I told everyone at work that the next time the forecast is over 110, I am leaving the suit at home and showing up to work in a skirt, kilt, sarong or any similar garment that allows airflow to the crotch.

I don't see anything wrong here tbh. It's not like it requires the teachers to get up close, bend down or touch to inspect them. You should be able to just look at each girl and see whether or not their skirts are knee length >_>

Not a girl, but I'd imagine it's also having to line up and be checked in front of everyone that they have issue with.

It isnt about hating men, its about dress code. But the focus of the story is predominately about how men looked at skirt lengths trying to imply some heinous activity. Somehow they are more at fault for doing their job than female colleagues. I cant see why the gender of a person putting a ruler next to you is relevant.
