How could they possibly be?
Because this was a controlled test. It said they gave them a beverage that contained 30g of erythritol.

The most popular drinks (Monster Zero Ultra) that contain it have 2g, so what drink were they grabbing off the shelf that has 15x that amount?

That's probably not per serving. The whole pint might be that though.

Looking at the nutrition labels listed for some of the keto ice creams at walmart, that seems to be the case. 8g/serving, 3 servings per pint. So that would get you close to that 30g mark

But honestly the idea that Americans are eating a pint of ice cream a day, especially under the guise of it being healthier is one of the least surprising things I might hear today

It was a two part study, to address that issue.

Healthy volunteers
In a final part of the study, eight healthy volunteers drank a beverage that contained 30 grams of erythritol, the amount many people in the US consume, Hazen said, according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which examines American nutrition each year.
Blood tests over the next three days tracked erythritol levels and clotting risk.
The top 5 ways to cut sugar from your diet
Thirty grams was enough to make blood levels of erythritol go up a thousandfold, Hazen said. It remained elevated above the threshold necessary to trigger and heighten clotting risk for the following two to three days.

I'm so glad I don't crave sweets and therefore don't need these crap.

However! Boy, do I love carbs. Still managed to reverse my type II diabetes, though.
