You're not wrong but to my understanding this is mostly a coaching and league problem. Play less games, let less teams in the playoffs, and then maybe there won't be so many injuries come playoff time.

The thing is it is super easy to at least get into the play-in games now. The playoffs are all a lot of players care about. Going into the playoffs at 100% is a huge thing even if the other star players are at 90%.

I never got it either basketball in a non-contact sport. What is wrong with their conditioning or playstyle where they are at so much risk of getting hurt. I could understand football where you are at risk of getting hurt in any play.

I dont know why people think basketball players arent at risk of injury at any time. Non-contact? How are you gonna box out in the paint or set screens? Its not all about conditioning. Many things can happen like awkward landings or contact with other players in transition.

the greater issue is that teams can do this because the NBA regular season is so completely meaningless. if the league really and truly cares about how atrocious the current regular season product is they can reduce the amount of games or have less teams make the playoffs. but of course they won't do that because it means less money

It sucks for the fans for sure. I have a little cousin who's a big Steph Curry fan. My uncle bought tickets three times when the Warriors came down and all 3 times he didn't play. Wasn't just Steph out either, it was basically the entire Warriors bench starting. I don't think Steph has played a minute of basketball in the city of New Orleans since the 20-21 season

Even worse since those tickets probably go higher than your average ticket for when a team like say the Hornets or Kings come to town, all just to see them play the bench the entire game.

Well he has been hurt a lot. Steph has had plaguing injuries since college.

but it also could be load management, the warriors have done that a lot.

Dumb comparison. If a single worker working half the time was the difference between the company making $1 million or $2 million they'd be resting too.

People signing the cheques for these players get more value out of them not being injured or tired than they do sending them out for 40 minutes a game on meaningless games

Whole reason players sit out now is the media's fault. If they don't win a championship they are considered a failure. Thus, they put all their focus on the playoffs rather than caring about the LOL regular season.

Stupid comments like this make it seem like the players dont put any effort into the game. They work harder than you ever will daily to stay in peak physical condition and to be one of the greatest in the world at their craft. Theyre paid millions because of the demand for them to be great at that craft.

This is true, but the nba is still a business that puts out a product and if a player isnt hurt and fans are paying to see that player, they should play. Especially if the game is nationally broadcast. The league will put these things first at the next cba meetings.

I honestly think we might be headed for a lockout because the players will counter with then we should play less games per season and the league will say okay then we should lower the cap and the players will say wait no

You're seeing a similar phenomenon in European soccer: historic, once prestigious competitions like the FA Cup are now treated like an afterthought by the biggest clubs, who have comparatively much more at stake from performing well in the league and European competitions. They field lineups full of second-stringers, and fans/media bemoan how the tournament has been devalued. But you can't make organizations at that level unlearn where the money is made.

Yeah but its statistically not working

since the spurs started doing it, and the more teams have done it, MORE players have been injured than in previous years

The players will play every day of the week, if given the chance. This is their life.

The issue is that the money is so high stakes that the players are just as much investments as they are athletes. Every game played is an opportunity for injury, so it is a balancing act of playing the players enough to win, while also minimizing their risk of being unable to play at 100% once the playoffs start.

Load management is prioritized much, much more by coaching staffs and GMs that players.
