Yay for its better incarnations.

If I had to watch every adaptation from start to finish, I'd probably say nay on it. TMNT has a bad case of Double Dragonitis in that there's very little consistency from series to series. As long as you have four or more talking turtles battling bad guys, it's Ninja Turtles.

The older fanbases are fractured between the ones who want the imagination of the 1987 cartoon and the ones who want the grittiness of Eastman and Laird. And attempts to connect with new audiences are lukewarm at best. If Mutant Mayhem don't prove to be the Guardians of the Galaxy of the franchise, I give Viacom one or two more failed reboots before they're willing to sell the IP to someone else.

I live where they were created so they've always been an even bigger deal here than they are everywhere else, and they were a massive part of my childhood. Apparently we're getting manhole covers customed designed in their honor, and I wholeheartedly approve of my tax dollars contributing to the effort.
