Stop shaming non-voters. Not everyone can afford to take time off work to wait in line for hours to vote. Not everyone has the same access to voting that you do.

Not every state has the same access to mail-in voting, either. Here are the mail-in voting requirements in my state of Texas:

https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/voter/reqabbm.shtml

To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:
be 65 years or older;
be sick or disabled;
be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or
be expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day; or
be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.

I just fill out the ballot at home, drive to the local library, and drop off the ballot in the box. There're always long lines for people who are voting there, but if you fill out before you get there, you can skip all the lines.

Its wild how widespread voter suppression is in the US. Many countries actually want their citizens to vote. Some countries require you to vote to participate in public services or get a passport.

Voter suppression is despicable. It is denying an individual their right to simply say "I exist" within their own country.

In my state, you have to prove that you will be completely out of your home county for the entire day or that you are physically incapable of leaving your home. It's not something you're allowed to request just because. The fact that I don't have a car isn't good enough to get a mail-in ballot, for instance.

A few months ago was the first time I ever voted. I did the early voting on a Saturday morning. The place was so empty. There was only 1 person in front of me which means no wait since there are multiple kiosks. I just walked in and voted and walked out within 5 minutes. I plan to do early voting from here on out.

All these states with nonsense mail-in ballot prerequisites need to pull their head out their asses.

Here in AZ, as long as you're a registered voter, you can opt in for mail-in ballots. I don't know how it works for people not originally from the state or country, but it's never been a difficult process for me. Although in recent years it's been kinda stupid because they give you the option to check off that you want recurring mail-in ballots moving forward, yet they still send you the opt-in pamphlet every election year regardless. And some Repubs naturally want to do away with it altogether, go figure.

I don't know why these assholes are trying to force people to interact in lines and shit. Even in AZ with mail-in ballots, we still had absurdly long lines at in-person locations with some places still going long after the polls supposedly closed. Those lines are just a hotbed for the same senseless arguing and grandstanding you see online, just in person. I don't want to stand around for hours listening to other peoples' political discourse that I get enough of on TV and online.

Unfortunately, a lot of these prerequisites are designed to keep certain demographics from voting. The powers that be won't change the rules because it benefits them.

I'm an American who hasn't lived in the country since 2006 (besides a brief 6 months in 2012).
I don't vote in US elections because I don't live there and it doesn't affect me.
I'm legally not allowed to vote where I do live.

I will comment and complain about the state of events in either place because I'm a thinking person with eyes, therefore I can make observations.

So how do you think one removes from power a group of people who have used every mechanism of power to rig the game in their favor?

We aren't there yet, but if the SCOTUS side with conservatives in favor of the independent state legislature theory then that's it. The dems will not be allowed to ever win a presidential election again since the GOP has already been allowed to gerrymander the shit out of everything.
