Very interesting question and seeing it being explored was cool.

I better not hear a single person who was stroking themselves over how gReAt Andor was complain about this episode lol.

It was good though, Im assuming that that chick is still playing for the Empire and just working from the inside and that the doctor was a loose end she needed to tie up.

I do think it's funny that the NR is destroying a ton of Imperial military data and pooh-poohing at stuff like cloning but they have no problem appropriating mind flayers and just promising not to turn the dial too far to the right.

I think that Andor is awesome and that this episode is awesome. For sure similarities, I agree.

Yeah, she was quite tight with Moff Gideon from what I remember from season 2.

Bo-Katans comment about the number of TIEs make me think Thrawn btw.

Who's complaining about Mandalorian? I've seen some criticism of Obi Wan and Boba Fett, but I haven't really seen anyone kicking down this show in favor of Andor. General opinion seems to be they are both great.

the republic seems to be acting like the imperials here

referring to the people as numbers, not names
the office the doctor was working in looked a lot like the one that syril karn from andor was thrown into
having to go through "rehabilitation"
saying imperial tech is not to be used but using the mind flayer
setting traps to bait people
not even watching the procedure, just leave it on and check back in 30 minutes or whatever

also, did anyone else catch that when they were sneaking out, elia cane had the chest piece thing that looked like the ones that the imperials usually wore? rectangular with square buttons

ep 1 was passable for the world building but 2 was great. this was good too for exploring the science fiction equivalent of rehabilitating nazisbut people at large are probably going to have a problem with a Mando show not, well, really featuring Mando.

setting traps to bait people
Going by what happened in the mind flayer room, I think the Republic didn't actually do that. That was all her. She baited him into doing something illegal so he'd be arrested. I imagine there is something grander going on with her, but this episode just makes it seem like a sociopath found her home in the Republic and is able to get her rocks off just the same. And tbh, I'd be fine if that's all it is and there is nothing more important happening. I really love her character.

Even as someone who doesn't give a shit about Star Wars and thus hasn't seen Clone Wars and all that, I was a little touched by Bo Katan's journey of seeing the mythosaur and then being casually accepted by the Watch.

I caught up on the last two episodes tonight and it's weird how they make the first episode worse. The best thing you can say about that episode was that it was intended to set up the season's plotlines, but they already wrapped up the plotlines it set up in the second episode lol.

I mean, it was pretty clear two minutes into that sub-arc that it was shaping up to be Andor lite, and I loved it because of it. A big part of what drew me into Mandalorian was that it was focusing on the ground-level characters and lesser-known stories to be told in the SW universe; Mando has wavered a bit on this front as the show has gone on with Filoni's Cavalcade of Cameos, while Andor focused 100% on the ground-level. I don't particularly mind and even sometimes enjoy it when Mandalorian heads off into loftier arcs, but I'll always appreciate when it veers back into what attracted me to the show in the first place.

Tbh, I was on board with Kane's long con when it seemed like she was sweetening him up to go back to working for Gideon, but it all seems convoluted and unnecessary if her only goal was to get him out of the picture (when she could have instead just thrown him off a balcony when no one was looking). Apparently he wasn't that valuable of a geneticist either, if her goal was to leave him brain-fried.

Still, it's reasonable to assume that a future ep might expand upon why such a long con was necessary.

All I can think of is "I, a communications officer, don't know what I need to be looking for for this kind of work so I need someone who can tell me what's what."

Also as to the "why not throw him over the edge", I imagine that as part of the Amnesty Program there are records of him and if he were to go missing for a period of time, there would be an investigation. In this setup, there is no need for an investigation. He was out of bounds and got punished and everything was wrapped up nicely, no need to look further.

All I can think of is "I, a communications officer, don't know what I need to be looking for for this kind of work so I need someone who can tell me what's what."

I'd reasonably assume at this point that the cloning research wasn't the focus here; Kane just brain-fried the guy who knew how it worked, there's no reasonable way the New Republic would let her keep the stolen equipment, and she wasn't really paying attention enough to memorize the equipment as he was gathering it. It'd be tough to make it plausible that her intent was to pull a Victor and attempt the cloning work without him.

It's not so much that the ending of that sub-arc didn't make sense in-universe, it's more that it's confusing as to why the writers decided to devote so much time to Kane's long con when her apparent goal was just to turn on him and eliminate him. If it was just to pull a twist on the audience by showing how suuuuper evil and conniving this character is, then that's kind of a letdown. One of the reasons the Andor comparison immediately popped up was because this sub-arc was introducing some nice moral grayness into the story, as it revealed the incompetence, dehumanization, and even hypocrisy of the New Republic's bureaucracy. Pershing slowly coming to the realization that going back to work for the Empire might be (from his perspective) the more morally-correct option would've been good payoff to this.

But still, that's just my opinion of the episode in a bubble. It's more than likely that Kane's motivation will be clarified later.

Ah Boba Fett. I feel they wanted to tell a darker more crime-ridden story but the execs were like "no but the kids tho" and the story we got was of a crime boss who doesn't want to do crime.

Which to be honest, is the plotline of my favorite video game series, but it doesn't fit as well in Star Wars.

He was working on some pretty heavy stuff. He was working on cloning Grogu and possibly even the early stages of Snoke. He was building upon Kaminoan research, which in Bad Batch, the Empire destroyed.

His intentions were to build upon all that, using the Empire, but to ultimately present it to the New Republic.

I rewatched it in anticipation for season 3 and it wasnt as bad as I remember the first time. Still below Mando and not even in the same universe as Andor, but decent if you dont take it too seriously.
